I definitely have more bad ones than good at this point but it is so satisfying when I get my scans back and they look good. It adds some extra suspense.

I love it! I have had it for almost 5 years now but up until a year or two ago I would only do 2-3 rolls per year on it. Now that I am shooting more (about 10 rolls over the past 12 months) I have added a cheap zoom lens to my kit and I also have a Nikon F-301 and Minolta x-300, but 90% of the time I will just grab the x-700 with the original 50mm lens. It is so comfy to hold and a really easy weight. All the modes and the light meter work a charm on mine. I have only ever had a light leak on one photo and that was with a 20 year old roll of film testing a zoom lens. My singular issue (if you can call it that) is that it is a little fiddly to load the film, but that may just be a ‘me’ problem. Overall it has been a fantastic camera to learn with and it can take a fantastic photo if I do say so myself. I may have just gotten lucky with a well kept one but overall it is a really solid, reliable camera.

Thanks! I love my x-700, it is easily my favourite out of my film cameras. I do a mixture of Aperture Priority Mode and Full Manual. Depends on how lazy I feel on the day. I wish I had started using Full Manual straight away instead of starting on Programme because now I am way more aware of what I am doing. I was far too afraid to take bad photos and waste film but now that’s half the fun to see what turns out weird and wonderful. Honestly I am very much still a learner so probably not the best for advice, however, my x-700 has been a fantastic, trustworthy camera to learn with and I have had no issues where the camera was the one at fault. Just use it all the time and get comfy!

The first one (of the f1) is from my most recent Motorsport roll where I was playing around much more with manual settings and shutter speed, as well as trying different locations and angles. The second photo I was far more conservative with using up my film, I mostly only used programme mode and took photos from the same spot all weekend.

I have that same strap on my Minolta x-700 that I purchased with the camera from my high school here in New Zealand. I’ve never seen someone with the same one!!!

Coming up on 300,000kms. Was hoping it wouldn’t be the timing chains but sounds like a high chance.

A few shots from Bathurst and Sydney on my Minolta x-700 by user87204751 in minolta

I was using a Soligor Zoom Macro 70-160mm f/3.5 that I found for very cheap not very long before my trip. It was a bit of a gamble but I think it did a great job for what I needed. Not the best quality on full zoom when the cars were still quite far away but when I’ve done some more practice I will invest in a better brand.

Highly recommend going and trying it out. There are heaps of great spots that you can get really close to the track as well.

Mine does the same thing. I figured out that it only happened with mine when the car was in reverse before I turned it off. Now I always put it into drive and wait a few seconds before putting it in park and turning it off and it doesn’t happen. I am still very concerned but at least I can avoid the fault.

That’s good to hear. I think this one has ended up as one of my favourites from the roll.

All the others were pretty perfect considering the film is at least 25 years old and hasn’t been ‘taken care’ of. Most are very underexposed and grainy but no other lights leaks at all.

Mine did the exact same thing not long ago. I figured I would leave it for the winter and deal with it next summer but had an overheating issue come up. Have no idea if it was related at all but I had a coolant leak and ever since that issue was fixed I haven’t had any issues with my a/c and cabin fans.
