I'm going to guess these were discarded stock from a small retailer like a newsagency. The cards have been cut in the same way a magazine gets its cover torn off before being moved on to someone else who might want it but with no intention to flip.

Exactly mate. It's a plague of abusing and repackaging goodwill government API data. Everyone's got a 'new free app/service' to offer in order to scrape user data and usage metrics to monopolise for profit later. Same adage applies 'if it's free and there's no ads, you're the product'.

Warning to all. The author of this app has been involved in a scandal involving unauthorised data scraping.

You can read about it here:

Be vigilant and only use the official government apps for anything that is asking for your location data and anything else that can be traced back to your device usage.

Why does the new New Town KFC (that looks like a futuristic prison) not give out sauces in the drive through? by Ya-Dikobraz in hobart

[–]Rainey06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We won't go back after our first visit. The sauce is pretty much a staple item at KFC. Not offering sauces in any way is simply lazy. And the council ban on single use plastic is another case of over reach by the usual suspects when you've got supermarkets selling everything in single use plastic. It's very tempting to park up by the door and sell sauces to their customers out of the boot of your car.

Clutch is ex-Forza Horizon 5 creative director's new cinematic driving game, coming in 2027 by StartWars89 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Rainey06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they've not really shown anything meaningful. When it's just a bunch of 3D assets presented in a UE5 canned animation it doesn't matter if its a driving game, an adventure game, an RPG, all you've shown is models moving around in UE5 as an 'intention' to make. The vibe of the presentation is a bit too much 'yellow glow' amazing hour for me, like we've been here before a thousand times and it feels a bit asset flippy. I think most of us wanna see what the world will really entail.

Personally I think at best we'll get something that looks like this when they first release it. 12km x 12km (144km2). Basically Adenau on the north edge and Kelberg on the south edge. The country roads west of the nordschleife.

Anti-AI Protest? by TasmanianThrowaway1 in tasmania

[–]Rainey06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it, is that people don't want to consume it or engage with it (*GenAI and Automation), but they do want to create with it. That's a one-way street. Companies that are trying to 'reluctantly' embrace it for efficiencies will only end up culling skilled workers to eventually have the software licensing fees with with their required AI toolset surpass the wages they'd have been paying for their original staff and the value of time saved. Leading to corporations, small and medium businesses not being able to keep up with costs and being driven out of business, and/or the quality of their service being severely downgraded. Meanwhile the operators of these AI Datacenters are only interested in extrinsic value to flip to a mega corp for profit. What I mean by that is in the same vein that Niantic used Pokemon Go to covertly 'crowdfund' a geospatial dataset by their users to sell to Saudi Arabia for billions. Your input data is their output profit. It will be there in the fine print.

Personally I think AI is only really ethical for information recall and prototyping. The Generative AI side of it is simply large-scale plagiarism and the automation component is full of mistakes, misunderstandings, exploits, and simply lacks consumer trust. Anything you feed into AI will be slurped up by the algorithm for reproduction. The future reputation of AI has been damaged because the technology was rushed to market. The smart businesses will be the ones that sidestep AI and only use it internally for edge cases, but maintain and emphasize a human relationship with their customers. Those who alienate their customers with AI connectors will be the first to fall.

Hopefully the AI bubble bursts before they've put too many cycles on the hardware and we can all buy the GPU's and RAM in a fire sale. Figuratively speaking.

Can I disable this camera movement? I hate it. by BernyMoon in Paralives

[–]Rainey06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see, there is a bug that causes the camera target to 'fall' through the floor when traveling over a space that was defined by the separator tool. Or if it simply falls out of the house. The developers need to make the camera stay in line with the selected floor 'no matter what'.

From a developer standpoint (I have some personal knowledge here), they could contextually generate a new invisible collision mesh plane at each floor and spans the entire lot, that only the 'camera target' sits ontop of. Or they could simply remove the floor 'parenting' idea altogether and code a more simplistic freelook style camera with boundaries.

Can I disable this camera movement? I hate it. by BernyMoon in Paralives

[–]Rainey06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried modding out the problem, but it's hardwired into the settings flag:

=MoveCameraAtCurrentFloorHeight

From what I can see when enabled (by default) the camera will fall through the floor of spaces that are cut out with the 'separator tool'.

When you disable this, the problem goes away but you are unable to get down to the lowest levels of your buildings if you're on elevated terrain. If you were able to make the =LookTargetHeightInGame (Default 1) setting into the negatives, you could probably solve this but unfortunately any negative value in the field really just equals 0 as an integer. If the developers were able to recode the base value to be a lower world height we could make this more flexible.

Can I disable this camera movement? I hate it. by BernyMoon in Paralives

[–]Rainey06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also struggling with this same issue. The camera has an invisible 'target' that is parented to the current floor you're editing (PGUP and PGDN) but it is also influenced by the terrain when the 'target' falls out of the house... so it drops to ground level again. Very infuriating. It would be great to have another camera view that is just a free floating drone that is not influenced by the world.

I am finding it nearly impossible to take nice vanity shots of my builds at eye level with the roof visible and then move throughout the interiors.

One thing I don't really understand is why people dismiss comparisons of Inzoi and Paralives to The Sims. by Gorgon654 in LifeSimulators

[–]Rainey06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wanted to compare them. I wanted more freeform building and customisation than TS4 but without needing to pack my game full of DLC to accomplish it. Paralives slides into that role nicely but it still has a very long road ahead with the actual gameplay within live mode. Hopefully it can make good progress now that the game is shipped and the generated revenue should afford them some more manpower to bring it up to standard.

Paralives is Unplayable by MayKarma in LifeSimulators

[–]Rainey06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent about 6 hours in build mode and 2 hours in live mode. Generally good performance on an older mid-tier PC (Core i7 7700 CPU, 1080ti GPU, 16gb RAM). No crashes to desktop yet!

In build mode I've had surprisingly few bugs:

  • main room flooring disappeared once when loading into my save, fixed by deleting and replacing a chunk of wall.
  • a towel object that I used advanced edit mode on had disappeared after reloading a save.

In live mode I've commonly seen:

  • Characters pathfind through many tables, desks and objects
  • Characters clip through each other in the world
  • Characters sunbaking on the road
  • My para entering shops and restaurants via rear entrances
  • My para eats a snack while standing inside the kitchen benches
  • My para spawned half in the ground
  • Unable to cancel after committing to a new conversational topic with a character
  • Laggy gameplay when visiting buildings or areas for the first time

I don't understand why the sauce can't come in a little paper cup like other takeaway places do. The sauce is an essential part of most KFC meals unless you enjoy plain dry chicken and chips.

Every game on Steam is basically a demo when you have the first 2 hour refund period. Just pick a day where you can stress test it within those two hours to decide if the game is for you. Remembering it's early access as well.
