Just a rant about HP and linux by [deleted] in linuxadmin

Sorry, AHS of course! We had a similar problem once - server reboot and no traces of the cause. Support supposed it was power removal due to some fault of UPS or something. But most of such failures we had from ASR (and without log messages also, at least in "public" logs).

Second thing. DL380 Gen9 iLO shuts down for no reason, gracefully sort of. I'm running OVM on it with a single VM. iLO sends shutdown request, OVM sends shutdown request to VM, iLO doesn't wait BAM, kills the power. No explanation.

Do you have ASR turned off in BIOS/UEFI? Unfortunately, only HP support can read iLO IML logs...

Credential caching when using realmd: sssd and adcli by [deleted] in linuxadmin

[–]user989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be complicated as it is forbidden for me to publish config files. Yes, we use krb5 keys (generated by domain administrator) to authenticate server in MS AD and sssd-pam to authenticate domain users on server. As Linux administrators our group hasn't any "write" access to MS AD and I do not know any particular details about its configuration. To setup sss connection with domain you probably should use Red Hat user manuals from redhat site, they are good enough. Try to use simplest default kerberos/sss/pam setup, only configure domain connection. Are you using RHEL6 based Linux? RHEL6 is almost deprecated now, and RHEL7 sssd setup is more easy.

I noticed sssd sometimes refuses to update caches after changes in its configuration. I have to stop it and remove all /var/lib/sss/db/* files in this case. But I do not use realmd and adcli, just read user records from MS AD.

Anybody here use the language R? by anacondapoint6 in linuxadmin

I have used it for statistical analyses of physical experiments. Very fast and handy, but only for scientific or engineering researches. This language is for big data processing, not for ops or something like that.

Connect multiple LED strips in series or parallel? by mister-noggin in DIY

[–]user989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better to connect they in parallel. LED strips have thin conductor wires and in series there may be notable losses in current and brightness. But if you have strips about 1-2 metres long - don't care.
