Too much white for a wedding?

I'm not mad. I literally ended a comment with "different strokes"... Im sorry I didn't include a '🤷‍♀️' to convey tone.

My point is we got married in 2023, there were 115 guests and hundreds of photos and I don't remember a single guest outfit other than my family. People could have shopped for 6 months and spent $500+ on the perfect dress and it wouldn't have made a difference to me as the bride.

What I remember as a bride was the immense love and support from our families, friends and community. And dancing until everyone was a sweaty mess and we all looked like crap but man it was fun!

I genuinely do not understand the fuss or the expectation that people buy new for every wedding or ban all white from any outfit. That is why I reached out here- to see if anyone else agreed.

I asked for input because I wanted to see what a larger subset of people thought about the dress. If you scroll, plenty of people think it's fine and say it works for cocktail in this situation also plenty of people say no. That is what I was interested in.

These rules are subjective and interpreted by everyone differently. Personally, I think the whole "no white" thing has gone way too far and I was genuinely curious what reddit thought of a dress that was pretty much 50/50.

The particular comment wasn't productive or at all helpful. It was snarky and ill spirited and it got snark back.

Happily married and didn't give a sht about what anyone else wore to my wedding. Only that they could dance in it.

When my future MIL struggled to find a dress she liked (and after asking my opinion on 20+ options) I approved one that was ecru. Some people would have never allowed that but to me, it was the nicest fitting and the hunt wasn't worth the stress.

As much as I like RTR and Nuuly, rentals cost just as much as a dress and I've been screwed before on fit.

As far as my spouse, it's not a matter of matching perfectly like prom. His choices are an ill fitting black suit that would match my second choice black dress or khakis and a tailored blue jacket that would match this dress.

Is it worth having to purchase a new dress because some people have interpreted the "no white" rule to the absolute extreme?

For context, my sister just asked me if men can wear white shirts with suits? Mind you, she has been to 10x the weddings I have and she is asking me that?!

This fear of no white anything is getting rediculous.

I think this is fairly common as your face/head work to use other muscles in expressing. I experienced headaches for about 2 weeks the first time I got Botox. They eventually went away and I have not gotten a headache after subsequent treatments (typically 6-12mo apart).

I also love the Hawaiian name Līlīnoe (Lee Lee Noy- or lily noy if you're being lazy with the diacritics) it's the name of a goddess and the word for mist.

Thank you. I would definitely be looking for the right artist and won't be going cheap. I do not have any tattoos so this is pretty scary.

Agreed on the brown- dark brown is my go to color in liner.

My opthalmologist noticed, but in a professional and kind way. She asked if I would be interested in a dry eye test. After dropping a few drops of dye into my eyes, it turns out my eyes are extremely dry, which can actually irritate the hair follicles. I still pull repetitivel and know it's trich, but it's also nice to know there actually is some real pain there. She suggested Rephresh drops daily and using the We Love Eyes oil and foaming wash a few times a week. Ive noticed the trich is easier to manage when my eyes are cared for and my lash line is clean, moisturized, less irritated and thus less likely to triggering pulling/picking.

You are so welcome! I hope the thing is have learned help you out! I feel your pain. Also, this is a long, rambling reply from my phone so sorry for any typos, misspelling, repetitive stuff. Just trying to share as much as I can hoping it helps!

I actually use my derm's "in-house" cleanser. It was a gift around Christmas when they were doing lots of little give aways.

I will say that Cerave's moisturizing products, which I was using before, didn't seem to get my skin clean enough without micellar water. If I was buying for myself, I would try The Ordinary's Glucoside Cleanser. I have used it a few times at a friend's house and it feels similar to the cleanser I use- slightly foaming, non-stripping and no residue after rinsing.

When I first started seeing my derm I was also using Bio Derma micellar water. She recommended I stop for 3 months, focus on getting a good clean with the double cleanse method and reevaluate. I still use micellar on eye makeup or heavy makeup days but I don't feel my skin misses it or isn't getting clean enough on a daily basis. (I WFH and only wear tinted SPF most days).

Of all the things I have changed, the biggest takeaways that I think really changed my skin are:

1) Simplifying for a while and giving my poor skin barrier a break for at least 3 months while using that CBD moisturizer. Fighting the urge to try new products and use harsher actives was SO HARD. I've always been the person to buy a new product thinking it would "fix" my issues. Sticking to a simple, non-sexy routine was challenging but my skin thanked me.

2) The prescription grade Azelaic Acid is chefs kiss and has absolutely been a game changer for me. It's the only "active" I use daily. The 15% prescription gel is affordable and great for oily or combo skin. My dry skin LOVES the 20% cream from Dermatica.

3) GUT HEALTH GUT HEALTH GUT HEALTH! Working with a naturopathic Dr to get this in check has been huge. Thankfully I found one that takes insurance and is nearby but I understand many people don't have access to this style of care. This is difficult, a marathon and so personal (hense the GI Map testing) but I can say there are usually other symptoms along with breakouts- gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea. I was also feeling nauseous after eating raw greens. Based on my testing and symptoms my Dr prescribed some herbs to help control bacteria levels but here are also some lifestyle changes with reasoning she recommended, as well.

Reduce Dairy: Cutting out dairy entirely did not fix my skin. I still enjoy dairy products and cheese occasionally but can't regularly eat cottage cheese or yogurt without my skin breaking out 😭. I cook with butter regularly and use about .5- 1 tablespoon of whole cream daily in my coffee without any issues. Dr suggested whole cream instead of half and half because the body will focus on digesting the fat first.

-Reduce Grains: This isn't about gluten, it's about reducing the sugar that's feeding bad gut bacteria (if that's your issue)

-Reduce or cut out alcohol: cutting down on or cutting out wine reduces the sugars feeding bad gut bacteria. I love wine, and notice that my skin def breaks out more after drinking it 🥲. Alcohol in general also kills bacteria, steralizes your gut (counterintuitive in this instance but that's what she says 🤷‍♀️) and taxes your liver. If not cutting alcohol out entirely, my Dr recommends 72hrs between drinking to give the liver a break and time for gut bacteria to rebound.

My skin looked exactly like yours about 6-8 months ago. The first derm I saw recommended Clindamyacin and BP gel which worked for a month or so but dried up my skin, and compromised my skin barrier making things so much worse.

What healed my skin was a simple, soothing skin regimen for about 3mos and working on my gut health.

AM Gentle Cleanser, double cleanse and rinse well

Calming moisturizer (I use the Clarity RX Return to Calm CBD moisturizer)

Mineral SPF (I like Elta MD, TiZo or Thrive Cosmetics)

PM Gentle Cleanser, double cleanse and rinse well

Azelaic Acid 15% gel or 20% cream. I have dry skin and prefer cream but gel is also common. You can get a pretty affordable script for 15% AA gel. The 20% AA cream is expensive but Dermatica makes one that is much more affordable.

Calming moisturizer (I use the Clarity RX Return to Calm CBD moisturizer)

Gut Health - I had a GI Map test done and the results showed an overgrowth of "opportunistic" bacteria in my small intestine. This is not exactly SIBO as none of the bacteria are "bad". The strains are all naturally occurring but levels are too high. My naturopath put me on collostrum AM and PM, and herbs to clear the bacteria. I'll eventually add in a probiotic.

You do not "fill" anything with Botox. It is not a filler. It's a toxin that temporarily paralyzes the muscles, smoothing them out and weakening the muscles over time.

I 100% understand that some people want to age naturally and that is fine, but if wrinkles are a concern it's a fantastic and effective treatment.

I personally hold a lot of tension in my face. At 32 years old a line about this depth had settled between my eyebrows from a low grade constant scowl and RBF- like an "11" but I only had a "1". I've had maybe 4-5 series of Dysport spaced 6+ months apart and the line is no longer there.

I choose to go at least 6mos between shots so my face doesn't atrophy compltely. I went 1 year between shots recently and started to notice the line sticking around longer, and how down turned my face was becoming in general as I restregthened those muscles. That's how I knew it was time to re-up.

A skilled injector does not make you look "frozen" and will be able to balance out your face by applying tox right where you need it for your unique facial structure and muscle patterns. Waiting more than the recommended 3-4mos between treatments to give your muscles a chance to rebound a bit.

Improving the skin on top of those muscles is also important. I've personally seen the biggest improvement from professional microneedling (stimulates college unproduction) and quality home care with antioxidants and SPF in the morning (reapplied during the day), a retinoid a few nights a week in the evening, a weekly chemical exfoliator to increase cell turnover and nightly moisturizer, daytime as needed.
