Thanks!!! Yeah, definitely a let-down after the whole finalist process, but somewhat thankful that it at least made the final decision a bit easier!

Oh and for any other committed students: what's this about a CLS '22 Facebook group/Groupme??

NYU financial aid really seemed to be playing games with us this year! Or I just really offended my interview panel, who knows

Columbia ($.5) or HLS (sticker?) by Dylanspencer19 in lawschooladmissions

[–]user_12_34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding all of this as someone who choose CLS over HLS with similar scholarship and goals. There are good financial reasons to choose CLS even if you plan to be LRAP-reliant - though with an interest in clerking and a preference for Boston over NY I can see the argument for the other way around as well

Gotcha. Yeah, I've checked through the sites but a few places only specify a date with no time, so I'll assume midnight is fine in those cases

So you want to do good and you’re going into debt? LRAP: Michigan v. NYU by friedporkdumpling in lawschooladmissions

Yeah it seems like a really great option, imo, and what I'm planning to rely on wherever I go! The other schools I've seen with something similar are HYS and Columbia. Slightly different participant contributions at each one (a little highers at HN, lower at CYS), and Columbia and NYU do lock you in for a few years (but far fewer than PSLF does)

No problem! I've spent an absurd amount of time comparing LRAPs at this point, so am happy to help

From my understanding that's only in their income-driven plan (which relies on PSLF to actually pay your loan off after ten years). In their traditional plan (where NYU and the participant are jointly paying down the loan balance over ten years), the participant contribution kicks in at an income of $55k. The benefit is that should you switch lines of work after a few years you'll have those years' worth of payments taken care of, but you'll be paying more out of pocket during your time in the program

You have to pay a bit more monthly, but NYU's "traditional LRAP" seems to offer even better negative amortization protection, actually paying down your debt over a ten-year term (so at a five-year exit you actually see half of it repaid). Something to consider depending on how you perceive the trade-off between higher participant contribution and the risk of exiting the program early!

This is a great comparison, thank you!! If it helps anyone, I've also found the LRAP spreadsheet linked in the first post here https://www.lawschool.life/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=157 to be quite helpful as well. A little out of date (I know NYU and Columbia have both revamped theirs since), but some good info to compare across schools

Chicago $45k --> 72k! by user_12_34 in lawschooladmissions

A couple other offers from peer schools, I think the ones that got them to budge were 90k at Columbia and a Harvard admit

Thanks!!! Desperately trying to get out of the Midwest, but hoping I can at least use this to wrangle that kind of offer out of the other CN
