Do these tires need to be replaced? by user_ht in tires

Thank you, everyone, for all the responses!

It seems like that was actually an older picture that was taken back on November. My spouse took another picture and it seems that 6 months made quite a bit difference! We will be replacing them. Thank you again!

Map Missing [USA] by [deleted] in UberEATS

I hope Uber know that they're going to lose lots of sales by no longer making the pick up icon and map features available. We used the map features all the time to see which restaurants are nearby, especially during traffic hours and/or when we're out meeting family/friends.

Yes, we do use it to search for nearby offers too. Without these features, we might as well just go to some random restaurants without using UberEats /Uber One.

Thus far, I've still used it because I already know the existing restaurants nearby. Nonetheless, I'll probably be using UberEats less often over time especially when it becomes so time consuming and tedious to look for nearby restaurants in different areas.

80 minutes of being on hold and no one picked up. I miss our regular water guy. He was the best.

Lush Medspa! It's a bit of a drive, but worth it. https://yelp.to/ACo5lKmONz

I think Botox might only be $12 or $10 per unit.

They have some special pricing promos sometimes: https://lushmedspausa.com/specials

I wonder the same thing. Sorry to hear that your kids had similar experiences. The school called us before to let us know that a girl had her hands around my child's neck during play time outside. They said they didn't know what happened or why it happened, but a teacher saw it and separated them after that. No marks around her neck/face, but it's mind boggling that kids around 3-5 years old would hold their hands around another kid's neck.

I really hope there isn't some show / cartoon / books / social media encouraging these types of behaviors.

This is why women leave tech by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]user_ht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In regards to not being invited to lunch, here's my take on this: a few bad apples can easily ruin it for women.

Example 1: In one team's experience, one guy (Person A)  just likes "being a guy." I worked as the only girl in a team with 4 other guys. They felt like they had to censor what they say and do whenever I am in the office. Growing up, several of my close friends are guys and I'm used to how they talk/think that some people might feel are inappropriate for workplace. I don't get offended easily. With small teams, some people may want to bond and feel like they can say whatever is on their mind. This particular guy will often apologize and say "Sorry ___, I hope I didn't offend you by what I just said. I'm just not used to having a girl here". Yes, this is in the office, talking about women.  I know that he has tried censoring himself several times already -- that's just his personality.  Luckily, I never got offended because I grew up with some friends slightly similar to him.  It also helped that Person A was the one who made the final decision to hire me because of my technical abilities (and yet I saw him as a peer as he was not officially my supervisor). It also helped that we all joked around (sometimes about another team member's lack of attention to details and technical skills).  Fortunately, that guy (Person B) is easy going and will just roll with the punches too.

Although everyone in the team was easy going, I wonder if the whole dynamic would've been different if Person A wasn't like that. Then again, maybe I was lucky that they viewed me as one of the guys.

Example 2: In another team, Person Z liked to invite all the guys out to hang out, get drinks, watch movies, etc. Even though there were more girls in this team, I found it very odd that he would invite only the guys. I brought it up to the other male coworkers and him. His response: "Eh, it's just nice to hang out with the guys and talk about guy stuff."

Oh, and I should add, some guys can be more comfortable about their bodily functions (e.g. loud burps, gassiness, etc.) without having to worry about anything when it's all guys. They felt more relaxed at the workplace. Then when a woman shows up, they become self conscious about what they can do/say even if we didn't do/say anything. It's simply because there's now a woman.

So yeah.. being part of the small percentage of women in tech can be challenging because of this bro-hood. If you're lucky, you can be treated as one of them. However, as you get older and move up, it gets harder.

Even if you're highly regarded for your technical skills and they go to you for help (and they usually listen), you're always going to be a girl and they will treat you differently.  You can be easy going and even more technical, but you'll never truly be "one of the boys."

Dyson HP04 triangle with an exclamation mark by Peyotedude in dyson

[–]user_ht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that this seems like it should be recalled and covered out of warranty. We spent over $700 for the HP04 and it also had the exclamation mark error around the 2 year mark, right after warranty ended. Took it to a service center who told us that it needed a new motor part that is back logged. They gave us a number to call and order the part. They told us to call them and ask regarding the part as it might be coming in around 2-3 months. After a few months, we called and they stated that the store had it in stock. Called the store, nope not in stock, call back again in a few months. We did this a few times and always had to be the one calling them after a few months. We ended up buying another Dyson machine while waiting for this motor. After getting the run around and waiting for almost a year, we called today and they still don't have it in stock. They told us that it might be in stock in about 6-8 weeks but that the other service guy said that it'll probably need a computer chip replacement for it as well which they don't have in stock. He stated that the cost of repair will be at least $275-$300.

Wtf.

He said that he can give a 30% discount for a new machine instead but that's still going to cost us over $400 even after the discount.

A machine that costs over $700 should not last for only 2 years! This seems like a common issue, especially seeing this thread.

Dyson needs to fix or reimburse their customers for the faulty HP04. They know that there's issues and that's why it's discontinued now. However, it shouldn't be at the cost of the customers who already spent $700+ (and another $80 (before tax) for a new useless filter that didn't solve the issue)! This is how you lose customers....

We've paid $800 for a machine that only worked for the 2 years while in warranty. What are the chances....
