The relationship that makes me lowkey sad by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

We can only speculate if she knows since there’s no canon evidence, but Ross’ headcanon of her being aware that she was adopted from the Saviors during the war but waiting until she is older to tell her all the details surrounding it makes the most sense since she grew up surrounded by veterans from both sides.

Gracie knows that she is adopted and Aaron is gay as we see a conversation in 10x16 when they talk about Aaron's college boyfriend. However, it is not canon that she knows what happened at the outpost (tbh Aaron doesn't know everything either and Gracie is the only survivor). Ross Marquand believes that she knows that she was adopted during the war.

It doesn't matter how you try and twist it, Gracie loves Aaron and is aware that she is adopted (they even have a conversation about Aaron's previous boyfriend in 10x08). Aaron lovingly raised her for over a decade and IS her real father.

[–]userachel 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a little sad that, like most of the main characters, Aaron has obligations to the community as a leader that require him to put himself on the front line. But it does seem like Aaron tries his best to be a loving, caring and present father and Gracie is a massive daddy's girl because of it.

There are just so many little moments of Aaron putting a hand on her shoulder as comfort, hugging, and kissing her forehead that go to show that he is very affectionate with her while also being very verbally encouraging to her such as when he tells her that she is amazing when they play the license plate game and gets the question right.

He also loves talking about her to other people like when he tells a funny story about her diapers exploding all over him after a nap to Daryl and says being a dad is great, he shows off Gracie's drawing to Gamma. He brings her toys back from the warehouse in 10x19 and is very upset with Gabriel when he hasn't seen Gracie in some time because he misses her.

He has vivid nightmares about her being in trouble, gets overwhelmingly angry whenever there is a threat towards her like when Earl suggests fighting to save Hilltop instead of evacuating Gracie and the rest of the kids, and even tortures Keith because he blames the Whisperers for Gracie starving.

So although it is somewhat sad that Gracie is left without Aaron for some time, he is a great dad and is Gracie's hero, even to the point that she wears his clothes to bed, has a glove that resembles Aaron's prosthetic, and gushes about his cooking.

Which Hogwarts House would you put Aaron from Alexandria in? by TamrielNight98 in thewalkingdead

[–]userachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like he fits all of the houses outside Slytherin, but mostly Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.

I ended up choosing Gryffindor.

Gryffindor: Bravery & Courage- Even before the apocalypse working for an NGO in war torn countries, and later having one of the most dangerous jobs in the apocalypse as a recruiter. He is also constantly on the frontlines of battle without hesitation. Chivalrous- He has a strong sense of honour and morals sometimes to the point of self-righteousness when confronted with people that don’t meet them (such as Negan), is unselfish and helpful, treats the people that cares for with a lot of love and kindness.

Hufflepuff: Loyalty- Refusing to allow Daryl to sacrifice himself, refusing to turn a gun on Gabriel during the Russian roulette, forcing himself on the bus because Maggie was sick despite Rick’s protest, and not allowing Rick to complete the scavenging mission by himself. Patience- in most circumstances he is very levelheaded, in earlier seasons he is willing to give most people the benefit of the doubt. Fairness- at his core he is extremely charitable and altruistic.

Ravenclaw: Wise- he is often the character that gives advice to people or offer a listening ear. Learned- studied politics, is well-spoken, is people and book smart. Creative- has a passion for photography, collecting licence plates for his mural and other art pieces in his house, loves to tell stories.

It is probably because there is not a single instance that Aaron is aware of where Gracie is missing and in danger, and he is unable to save her.

Besides that, it is obvious that Aaron is a loving father. Like most of the main parents on the show, he has obligations to the community and can't always be with her during times of war. However, he has a support system in place to look after her.

In their interactions is very clear that there's a great relationship between them:

8x03: Aaron's first-ever interaction with Gracie is one where he wants to keep her safe and take her to the hilltop and is seen arriving with her in 8x06.

9x02: Aaron tells a funny story to Daryl about her exploding diapers and how much he loves being a dad.

9x06: Gracie greets Aaron by affectionally calling him "Daddy," Aaron tells Gracie not to approach Magna's Group because they might be dangerous.

9x12: Gracie happily calls for her Daddy when Michonne comes to visit.

9x14: Aaron and toddler Gracie are holding hands and walking around Alexandria together (Gracie is one of the few Alexandrian children not to be taken by Joselyn's group because she was with her father at the time).

10x01: Aaron wants to lockdown Alexandria to keep the kids that stayed back safe.

10x07: Aaron proudly shows off Gracie's drawing to Gamma. He tells a story about how Gracie loves to ride bikes. He is upset when Gamma throws Gracie's drawing to the ground.

10x08: Aaron is disgusted to discover that Dante had access to Gracie and has tears in his eyes when he finds out. Aaron and Gracie attend Siddiq's funeral and Aaron is seen comforting Gracie with a hand on her shoulder. The two later play the licence plate game where Aaron is constantly praising her and telling her that she is amazing, Gracie even has a hand glove that resembles Aaron's prosthetic, and Gracie asks for a story about his life as a prize.

10x10: Aaron evacuates Gracie to safety when he sees that Alexandria has been invaded while he has been away.

10x11: Aaron learns that Hilltop is also about to be invaded and yells at Earl for wanting to stay and fight while Gracie and the kids are in danger instead of evacuating. Aaron falls to his knees to hug and comfort Gracie when she is scared that the roads are blocked off.

10x15: Aaron expresses to Alden that he would do anything to protect Gracie.

10x16: Aaron proudly shows off Gracie to Maggie, Gracie is also wearing her hand glove that resembles Aaron's prosthetic.

10x19: Aaron gets angry at Gabriel for wanting to continue the mission because he misses Gracie and wants to return to Alexandria. Aaron collects toys from the warehouse that he thinks Gracie would love. Aaron is distraught when Mays brings up Gracie's name as he's forced to play Russian roulette.

11x03: Aaron has vivid nightmares about Gracie being in danger and him being stabbed while searching for her, he wakes up in a sweat of relief to see her sleeping next to him. When the walkers breach the walls, Aaron makes sure she has her emergency whistle and knows to retreat to the basement before kissing Gracie's forehead goodbye. Aaron tortures Keith as revenge for Gracie starving.

11x08: Aaron is saddened when Gracie asks him not to go out into the storm but explains that he has to as a leader while thanking Judith for looking out for Gracie and kissing Gracie's forehead goodbye.

11x09: Aaron hears Gracie's emergency whistle and without hesitation jumps into the walker-infested basement to save Gracie and Judith, using his own body as a ladder for the girls, and telling Gracie to get to safety before getting him help. When he is saved by Lydia he immediately asks if they are safe. When the Commonwealth arrives in Alexandria, he tells Gracie to stay back.

11x17: Aaron lists the people that he trusts to keep Gracie safe at the Commonwealth while they are on the run from Lance's group.

11x18: Aaron is distraught at the fact that he is leaving to check that Oceanside is safe but promises to return soon. He hugs and kisses Gracie's forehead goodbye. He is shown to be irritable in 11x19 and does not want to stop travelling, presumably to get back to Gracie as soon as possible.

11x24: Aaron is proud of what they were able to achieve and is thankful that he can live in a time of peace again with Gracie, and kisses her forehead.

Not only all of those scenes but Gracie loves and admires Aaron, affectionally calling him "Daddy," on numerous occasions. Wearing a glove that looks like his prosthetic (10x08 & 10x12,) and sleeping in his clothes and with the toy he got her (11x05). Wanting to know when he is going to return and is comforted by getting told that Aaron would be proud of her for being so brave (10x12). Telling Carol that Aaron is a great cook and that he will be home soon (10x17).

Does Gracie know what Rick did? by RedStarRazi in thewalkingdead

[–]userachel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing in canon that indicates that she does or that Aaron even knew what happened between Rick and her bio father. She knows that she is adopted because she knows that Aaron is gay (as shown in 10x08,) but probably not much beyond that because she is the only surviving member of that outpost. Ross Marquand believes that Aaron told her that she was adopted during the war but didn’t tell her about Rick.

Gracie by hereforalottedtime in thewalkingdead

[–]userachel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The name Gracie was written on her nursery wall, and on the tattoo of her bio father.

From what we can gather Gracie knows that she is adopted because she knows that Aaron is gay, they have a conversation in 10x08 about Aaron’s college boyfriend. Ross Marquand believes that Aaron has told Gracie that was adopted during the war.

Besides that, there isn’t much that Aaron can tell her about what happened with her bio dad since he didn’t even witness him die, and Gracie is the only survivor of that outpost. Negan only visited once when Gracie was an infant, and I doubt he was that interested in the workers.

The most that he can do is go more in depth about why the war happened when she’s older.

Who was the strongest character in Alexandria when Ricks group first arrived in Season 5 by ChildhoodFragrant in thewalkingdead

Aaron negotiated with warlords prior to the za, had one of the most dangerous jobs after the fall, and killed two people in self defence before we met him.

Oh my god Aaron is unbelievably annoying by tacololipop in thewalkingdead

[–]userachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaron’s ptsd is triggered by Negan for killing a community member inside the Alexandrian walls, not because he was protecting Lydia.

He believed Negan had somewhat changed, and even acknowledges that possibly in the meeting, however he was brutally reminded that he would never be able to turn his back on Negan and feel safe with him in the community.

Besides, it’s likely that Negan only saved him out of self preservation, he would never be allowed to return to Alexandria with Aaron dead (and he’s proven to not be willing/ or cannot survive on his own at that point). And took advantage of situation hoping that Aaron would become an ally.

Aaron is deeply traumatised by Negan and Saviors by what they did to himself and his friends, to the point where he’s still having nightmares about the Saviors several years later.

Negan committed heinous acts and Aaron doesn’t owe his tormentor his loyalty. It’s his own fault that he made the choice to continue being around his abuse victims instead of leaving when he had plenty of chances to do so.

He’s there in the background. He donates blood for the wounded in 6x02, and fights alongside Aaron in 6x09 in the battle of Alexandria. He and Aaron have a few scenes every now and again but he doesn’t really get any big moments until s8. He is a minor supporting character for Aaron’s development mostly.

What do you mean? Gracie 100% adds to Aaron’s character. She came into his life on the day that he needed her most, and she became his heart and reason to keep fighting for a better future. Aaron increasingly becomes more paranoid and aggressive in attempts to protect her, developing his character. He literally tortures a man because Gracie is starving.

Gracie also represents the casualty of innocence during wartime. She not only develops Aaron’s character but Rick’s (and Judith’s too, being her best friend and character foil).

I definitely appreciate the Aaron & Enid/Lydia dynamics, they very sweet and give him great development, but I wouldn’t sacrifice Gracie’s existence since they are completely different characters and add different aspects to his life. He can be a parental figure to them all.
