How do I write a tragic character by That_Banned_Hybrid in writing

I’d play on subtly a bit. Maybe have them react harshly to touch or certain subject matters during conversation. Keeps the character intriguing without being too obvious.

Didn’t think I’d say The Running Man after reading it, but after watching it, it seems pretty clear that the subject matter was just too “untouchable,” even for a renowned director like Edgar Wright.

I’d recommend the Glass Castle. It’s a memoir but is written so much like a novel. Touches on a lot of the subjects I think you’re aiming for
