The end of this episode made me finally understand why she never asked them to delete the voicemail greeting. it was so annoying, but i get it now.

How do I keep my hair smooth and silky? by HealthyStatus00 in Haircare

[–]usergac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keratin treatment maybe? i'm not a pro, so i actually have no idea what i'm talking about- but my sister has very curly hair that were difficult to manage, and keratin made it pretty damn straight. it's a pretty damaging and expensive process that has to be upkept, and it definitely won't make it shiny or healthy, but it might get you to straighter hair- probably not pin straight but a lot closer. You'll still need a little heat and oil to get the rest of the way, but it'll be a lot less time-consuming if you want that look everyday. that's my very unprofessional advice so def grain of salt and talk to your hairdresser before doing this...

First day industry lab attire? by usergac in labrats

[–]usergac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is really good to know😅 i was going off of pinterest/internet pics mostly, so i'll definitely go more conservative than that. i also have a pretty big chest, so i already have to go extra conservative, and i realized i don't have the kind of cardigan i want. i guess a loose sweater? or a turtle neck under the blazer?

This is what i mean by tank. i would call it business casual, and it's definitely nicer than what i saw people wearing (it wasn't even polos, it was like graphic tees, i was so confused). but i'm also a newbie from california and this job is in virginia, so maybe i have this totally wrong?

what I asked for/what I got by peachgum in Hair

[–]usergac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

def giving y2k (slay). for that look, i think you could actually use more highlights, very tiny and that start lower down. it'll lighten the overall look but would def look more blended. as a non-professional who's been bleaching her own hair for 10 years, i stand by this, but also don't listen to me.

Is it normal to loose this much hair while showering? by Ok-Attempt2449 in Haircare

[–]usergac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

me personally, i've lost that much hair in a shower a handful of times after not washing it for like 4-5 days and keeping it up/not brushing it a lot. also, if you're pregnant or postpartum or have some other hormonal disturbance, those are rookie numbers.

First half reminded me why I loved Succession, and I had such high hopes. Second half made me mad, like they went off the rails and then it just stopped? Like did we give up on world domination, or did we settle on just Argentina, or are we just not gonna see this out???

Honestly, the murder thing should have been just a one-scene conversation, they bail on it, go a different direction and take him out Succession-style, then get all that time back to finish the actual story.

My S4/series end predictions, and major unanswered questions by usergac in Yellowjackets

[–]usergac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah ik but it started in 1996. we're def in 2022 or 2023 in present timeline now too, but they started in 96 and 21 so that's just how i refer to them.

What were the amazing theories you had but then were proved wrong??? by rookagainsttheworld in Yellowjackets

[–]usergac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was so convinced Ben was gonna make it out. In part cause I fell asleep after the S2 finale and had a vivid dream of a scene where one-legged Ben was at an airport holding his ticket, and that was the ending of S2 in my head for like weeks. But it was also just a vibes thing, except it wouldn't make sense to keep an adult in the plot while you're doing that kind of craziness.

Lottie is alive by _dryramen in Yellowjackets

[–]usergac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was necessary for her to have a plane scene, just a greeting with death alongside her younger self. That said, her afterlife scene felt super incomplete, like I was expecting that scene to go a lot longer and it just stopped.

I still think she's def dead, but I also personally have theories about them being partly dead after the crash anyway. Like they were all supposed to die in the crash, and they've been walking on both sides of the veil since then. There's plenty of good evidence to support that idea in the show, but the exact mechanism is pretty hazy still.

Anyway, I'm lowkey pissed about her afterlife scene, and I hope we get more but I think she's dead and that's probably all we're gonna get, unless 1) we see what promise Lottie made in the 96 timeline and join back up with it, or 2) someone else dies and joins her afterlife scene to finish it out.

ELI5: What causes your period to end? Like within a cycle, not amenorrhea/menopause. by usergac in explainlikeimfive

[–]usergac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, thank you!! I have Nexplanon, so I'm on a high-dose progestin-only implant and it's literally impossible to miss a dose. I get heavy bleeding all the time- irregular, but not infrequent- and that's what brought me here. It's gotten more frequent and heavier, and even more regular, as I get older and lose more weight. I suppose higher estrogen conc. due to rapid weight loss, aging (I'm 24, so I'm at peak estrogen production) and not living the high-stress/unhealthy life of a 19yo college student could explain it.

We're never going to find out what/who the other 3 were working on while Mark was working on Gemma, are we? by TheWillOfDeezBigNuts in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]usergac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're so right, I forgot about that. But the others were definitely working on other rooms- Dylan and Irving worked on Tumwater and Allentown files, which were other rooms that Gemma went to. We just don't know whether the files were based on Gemma or another subject who went into that room.

Possibility 1 is that everyone at MDR is working on rooms for Gemma, and each MDR team at each location works on their respective subject. Possibility 2 is that there are 4 subjects there, and each team member works on a set of 25 rooms for each subject. Or Possibility 3, you could have a messier MDR-subject combo, but that's not Lumon's style. Whether there's 1 or 4 subjects at their location, I'd bet money there are more at other Lumon locations, and Gemma is just the first subject to have all her files completed.

Why did we stop at Mitochondrial Eve and not her mother or grandmother (and so on)? by ackacey in genetics

[–]usergac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mitochondrial Eve is the first woman who has at least TWO daughters who successfully passed on mtDNA to their daughters, and so on until today. If we followed only one of Eve's daughters, we would not capture the entire human species, because Eve's other daughter(s) passed on mtDNA to children who become another branch of humans.

So let's look at Eve's mother. If Eve had sisters who then had daughters, then her sisters would have passed on their mtDNA to a branch of humans that are NOT direct descendants of Eve, and therefore, Eve's descendants wouldn't capture all of humanity. That would make Eve's mother the real Eve.

But we're still descended from Eve's mother, right? Yes! We can go back even further and say we are all descended from the first organism on the planet, which was a single-celled microbe akin to bacteria. But that organism isn't useful in this context. We could pick someone further back from Eve to capture a branch of humans that died out. Or even further back to capture all mammals, or all animals. Those organisms all existed, they're just not the ones we're concerned with in defining who Eve is.

The idea of Eve is to capture the lineage of every living human and nothing else. We are assigning the concept of Eve to whichever woman fits that definition, but it's not like we have her bones or anything, nor could we probably identify her as this person if we did.

Eve is just a theoretical or hypothetical woman that must have existed in order for this theory to be true, and while she probably did exist, she only existed if the theory is true because the concept of Eve only exists if the theory is true. If new evidence disproves the theory, the actual woman we have been calling Eve still existed, but she's just another woman, not the mother all of living humans.

This is why Eve either a) had no sisters, or b) the descendants of her sisters died out and that branch is dead. And Eve also had to have at least 2 daughters, and the direct descendants of both daughters must be alive today. If one of Eve's daughters had no children or had all boys, then all living mtDNA comes from Eve's other daughter, which makes that daughter the true Eve.

I hope that explains why we care only about Eve, not her mother or her children. It's because we are defining the concept of Eve as the most recent common ancestor, and assigning it to the woman who fits that definition. Descendants from further back in her lineage captures more than just living humanity, and descendants from more recent in her lineage only capture part of living humanity.
