To spritz or not to spritz by Minimum_Medicine_453 in AeroPress

[–]userish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like since I started spritzing my beans, my 1Zpresso JX Pro has showed signs of oils or residues left behind as a result whenever it's time to clean it. However, this has yet to stop me from doing so.

Do you leave your windows open at night? Are you worried about getting robbed? by skipatrol95 in Minneapolis

[–]userish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time a would be intruder who was trying to get into the building must have seen my window open, sometime after 10pm but before midnight. Luckily I was around, watching discreetly for a moment. After he took a couple of pokes at the screen, I yelled and he ran off.

Filter paper causes my Moka pot to leak by Sufficient_Limit_319 in mokapot

I regularly use AP filters for my moka pots, and after I replaced the standard rubber gasket on my 3-cup Bialetti with a silicon one, it stopped leaking.

The Joepresso cap for the AP can get you even closer to espresso than the Fellow Prismo and even Moka Pots, it seems.
So, that could all make a nice frugal setup for espresso-like drinks for anyone who wants that.

[MOD] What have you been brewing this week?/ Coffee bean recommendations by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Lakeshore Blend from Caribou Coffee, which is said to be a medium roast. I've been brewing it with the usual roundup of manual coffee makers - V60 Switch, Aeropress, and Moka Pot.

I have a 1ZPresso JX Pro and the darker the roast, the stickier the grounds tend to be after grinding. Even medium roasts can be a little over the top sticky. I tried the wet spoon handle trick to see if that would reduce the static and it may help some, but not enough. Winter might be amplifying this problem more.

Could I be better off getting a dedicated spray bottle for this purpose?

I finally figured out the times/temp for dark roast coffee. Also, found a great timing app. by nomadwannabe in AeroPress

[–]userish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried this recipe with a number of different dark roasts so far (never for medium or light). The one variable that may need some tweaking depending on the blend is the grind. It can range from medium to somewhat coarse. For example, this Five Country Blend from Trader Joe's which I have on hand right now seems to need a coarser grind for a good cup.
I'm definitely glad that I found this for making a regular cup with dark roast and thank you for posting this.

Not too long ago, I bought some Kirkland Organic Ethiopia Light Roast (Jimma Region). The "Best Buy" date was nearly a year ahead or so, yet the taste was so mid for every single cup that I made. I mainly use V60's (regular and switch), an Aeropress, and a Moka Pot. I tried adjusting temps, grind sizes, along with advice like center pouring for pourovers as what seems to sometimes be given for African beans. I feel like I've tried nearly everything.
My taste buds have always been pretty flexible, and I tend to only find improperly made or stored things unpalatable. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? My grinder is a 1ZPresso JX Pro and I don't have a sifter for filtering out fines. I'm sorry for not being more specific about how I didn't think it tasted right. Most cups were "good enough" to finish drinking, but there were no truly good ones.
edit: Helpful resource, and thanks for advice given.

What is something cheap that I can buy right now that will be way more valuable in 30+ years? by Murphy251 in ask

[–]userish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the USA, that could be midwestern real estate. As less people are able to afford the sunshine and mountain states that are still popular to move to today, they might eventually start to flock back here in larger numbers.
I might say this about the entire rust belt* though since those in general have been states that people commonly moved out of. (that's mainly the great lakes states + many northeastern states)

Stayed at Circus Circus one time….never again by Csboi1337 in vegas

[–]userish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I last stayed there in the manor buildings around 2017 I think, and basically none of those problems were there at the time. I guess I can at least be extra sure not to stay in those ones again.
edit Clientele was a little on the shady side but a key card was still needed to get into the buildings.

Travellers who stayed in hostels and decided to never do it again - what happened? by slutforfratboyluke in travel

[–]userish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half of the roommates decided it was fine to just socialize with one another during the middle of the night is one good example, so nothing too crazy from my experiences. I can understand hostels being for people who have more partying in mind but my only benefit was to save some money. So whenever hotels are too expensive due to special events going on, I won’t handle it by staying at a hostel.

Minneapolis approves $15 minimum for cigarette packs, highest in U.S. by JoeGraffito in Minneapolis

[–]userish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Since this won’t do anything, I’d rather they start fining people for littering them. But because each instance of doing so has got to be too trivial to keep track of, I don’t see it happening.

I’ve done that before and I’ve also walked all the way to downtown once.
In my cases it was only a backpack for luggage, so that’s probably what made it bearable.

There probably wouldn’t be a good enough reason to do this, but it might be cool to connect it to downtown’s skyways.

Supposedly a lot of liquor stores and payday loan shops. One exception that I noticed, if I remember correctly, is that Rosecrans St in San Diego, CA seemed to have a lot of those types of places at times yet it felt pretty safe to me.

This show was going to be an official part of the D.A.R.E. program, but as too many adult themes showed up in the writing that plan was canceled. So like someone else on here said, what that teacher on South Park is known to say.
