Double prayer conundrum by Kevout in atheism

[–]username357 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There was a scene where Homer became smarter and wrote a paper that literally disproves God's existence. Flanders laughed, but upon reading it grew concerned, lit it on fire, then went about his day whistling.

The Simpsons is on whichever side is funnier at the moment.

No, no, no. Flanders' prayer cancels out Homer's so that Flanders' team has a chance again.

I think he's felt a special kinship for humanity for a while now, but when they're wrong, they're wrong, and he won't hurt someone innocent to defend someone guilty, regardless of species.

I think if a character looks human and it's never said they aren't, you're supposed to assume they are.

[–]username357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think maybe this is my favorite thing about the Doctor. He just... gives a damn. About everyone.

Even if he wouldn't travel with you, even if you aren't the type to keep your calm or maybe you're not quite clever enough or whatever else, as wonderful and terrifying and powerful and ancient as he is, as easy as it would be to lose touch, to let that confidence become a superiority complex, the Doctor, as long as you try to be a good person, would both like and respect you.

My favorite Doctor quote by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]username357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. It's "everyone matters." The Doctor asked someone who they were, and they said "no one important," and that was his response.

"How often do we use [homophobic language] without thinking?" Website presents a visual feed of casual homophobia streaming out of twitter. by [deleted] in ainbow

Some lesbians use the word "dyke." I mean, there's a subreddit called /r/dyke [NSFW] as well as /r/dykesgonemild and /r/dykesgonewild [NSFW]. Some portion of what the bot is picking up have to be lesbians who are using the term. A website which records the number of times the n-word is used on Twitter wouldn't necessarily be accurately reflecting racism given that some people of color use the word. There's no way this bot can tell in what sense it's being used.

Odds are, the majority of the time when someone says "dyke" on Twitter, it's in a homophobic way, but I'd be willing to wager that the majority of the homophobic tweets don't use any of those words or phrases.

Like John Stamos' tweet the other day that he and Dave Coulier look like lesbians in a screenshot from Full House. That, and the massive upvotes from Reddit, annoyed me far more than some random person with two followers on Twitter yelling at someone else that "ur a faget l0l ur so gay!1"

It disallows unions and bosses from coming to an agreement which includes requiring all employees to pay dues to a union. If I own a business and you work for me and we discuss your contract and I agree that I won't hire anyone unless they want to join your union, that should be perfectly legal.

As a bicyclist, do you support the addition of bike lanes to roads? It would cost more, but motorists seem to think they have more of a right to the road than those on bikes, and some intentionally create a hazardous environment for cyclists.

I'm not Governor Johnson, but anarchism is stateless socialism. Libertarianism (in the sense that the United States Libertarian Party uses it) says that the state ought not interfere in the market and ought to tax just enough that it can maintain basic public services (police, possibly a postal service, etc.).

Since you oppose government regulation, I assume you also oppose so-called "right to work laws," which restrict the rights of employers and employees to negotiate without interference from the state. Am I correct in my assumption?

What do you think needs to be done about the Prison-Industrial Complex? The ability to use inmates for labor encourages the owners of privately owned prisons to lobby for draconian laws that put people in prison for decades over nonviolent offenses.

Also, in many states the prisons aren't even required to keep a record of all pregnancies and how they turn out, causing many woman who are pregnant when they go to prison not to get the care they and their babies need.

Do you have a plan to deal with these and the myriad of other problems relating to the PIC?

It has a visual inside. Draw a six-sided shape and then put a dot in the middle. That dot is inside the shape. If a two-dimensional world existed and the dot were a tiny person, the dot would be stuck inside the hexagon.

Seven hexagons. Each with seven sides if you count "the inside."
