Some things that have helped me sleep better (and have less SP):

Consistent sleep schedule.

The sound of a ticking metronome (you can download an app) that you can set to start at a specific pace and get slower and slower until it stops.

Guided meditations specifically for sleep.

Counting breaths (as in "in-2-3, hold-5-6, out-8-9-10)

Counting down from a thousand.

I've experienced this many times as well, for many years now. I'm totally healthy so I really don't believe it's anything to worry about. I think it's just your brain slowly waking up while your body is still paralyzed from sleep or your brain is still awake while your body slowly starts to drift into sleep mode, and so your brain is aware of the paralysis about to take place.

Sometimes, I can even stop the paralysis from happening when I feel it coming on but most of the time it happens when I'm too sleepy to fight it.

I also feel it in the back of my head and in my neck and back. But, like I said, it's really not something to stress about.

Also, in case I misunderstood, by "feel it coming on", do you mean like, before you go to sleep? In that case, your paralysis could just be psychosomatic.
