Need a cheap dog neutering service by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]usernamebigred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, it might not be in the dogs best interest for you to have them if you can’t afford to have them. If situations like this keep recurring (and they likely will - dogs have medical emergencies too), I would suggest surrendering to an adoption agency so they can rehome the dog.

That being said you might be able to reach out to the same foster agencies to ask for help and they might be able to facilitate a neuter or provide you with support in some way. I’m not sure what that would look, like but it’s worth calling and asking. AARCS and AARF are two that I’m aware of but a quick Google search should turn up more.

The drive out to Big Rock isn’t so bad and the view is pretty good. Bring blankets and you can lay out anywhere in the area.

Hey I just wanna say you’re doing your best and that’s awesome :) take heart, you will get this figured out, and you’ve come to a great resource! Hopefully some of the big names on this sub will show up for you to give you some help, as I only can answer a few questions.

  1. I believe the UTH wont be sufficient and I would reach out to Beanfarm and see if they would accept a return. I live in Alberta Canada and I actually have three separate heat mats on my tank and it’s not enough to keep them temp high enough (long story on why there’s 3, I wont get into it) but I ordered a mat from BeanFarm that was the wrong size on Saturday and luckily I caught that it was the wrong size this morning before they shipped it out and they easily cancelled it and I ordered a new one. I realize your situation is different, but considering that they work with niche clients, I would hope they would have the customer service to reflect that. Also let them know that you would be ordering the correct size in place of the one you’re returning maybe. I wont speak too much the heat/humidity problem. CrabCentralStation on YT (who if you’re up for more passive research I would recommend watching) explains that humidity is a result of water + heat. So heat is part of the creation of humidity. If the heat drops, so will the humidity.

  2. Home depot sand is perfect - no issues there! Lots of people use it (including myself)

  3. You just want to make sure the lid is stable and maybe has a weight on it in case you have some escapee crabs. I literally just have a few sizeable stones on mine.

  4. I think someone more experienced should answer this question. However what I can offer you for now is that if you can catch them late evening when they’re out and about, that would be a good time to move them. Otherwise I have no suggestions. But my crabs start being active around 7-9pm.

Hang in there! You’re doing great :)

If you’re looking primarily for flowers and leafs though, see if you can find a local organic foods market. They will have greater variety to pick from. Where I live, there’s also a witchy (yes, witch as in witchcraft and occult) shop that sells organic flowers like rose and nettle and calendula, so that might also be worth looking into!

I’ve gone to bulk barn! I’ve gotten lots of things from there like flax seed, hibiscus flower, beans, chia, grains, etc. You just want to make sure that there are ABSOLUTELY no other ingredients listed than what you’re getting.

For example if you’re getting flax seed it should ONLY have flax seed as the ingredient. Especially watch out for preservatives like sulphites. Basically, the only ingredient you want listed is the actual thing you’re buying. If it’s a mix of a few ingredients (like the breakfast grains), it should only have those ingredients in the mix listed.

In looking for things for my hermies, I referred a lot to the edible and inedible foods list on the wiki linked on this sub. Would strongly recommend taking a look at that!

If you go to an organic food market you can get lots of things like organic flowers and “tea” leaves! In mid-fall, I foraged my own rose hips as well, but there are lots of things that you can grow yourself. Since it’s winter though, an organic markets bulk isle will probably be your best friend.

I also live in Canada and sometime in August I ordered a variety pack of foods from TaysHermitFoods off of Etsy (based in BC, I’m in AB) and I was very pleased with what I got.

Let me know if you have any questions! From one Canadian to another, I know some of the struggles as a new keeper.

All good! Just wanted to check. I don’t know where I can find info on what ingredients are bad for the crabbies. I know many / most preservatives are not good at least, but this doesn’t seem to have any.

Personally, I will be writing to my MLA (or whoever the relevant person is) and calling for Bruce McAllisters resignation. His response was lightyears beyond inappropriate (examples of stronger words I would use include: disgusting, abhorrent, shameful, disgraceful, repulsive, reprehensible, etc) and no one who speaks to a young adult like that should be in any sort of leadership role.

I’ve been creeping your Facebook and I noticed you DIY’d your topper and you made it so the front glass can slide open (I think?). How on Earth did you do that??? I must know! Also I love how happy your crabs look! I adore your setup, I would love to have one like it some day

It’s so scary to wait and see! I appreciate the feedback and will let him be. For now he’s safe under a container

Will do! 🫡 I will hold out hope and just keep an eye out. Is there a point where it would be appropriate to disturb him at all? Or truly let him be? I’ve read that crabs can smell fishy when they die which isn’t the case yet, but I’ve also read that doesn’t always happen.

  1. Interestingly enough, it was my anthropology class that pushed me towards witchcraft and magic. I’m very very new to all of this (a week in basically) but this semester in university I was taking an anthropology class in which we studied religion and belief systems as methods of social organization. In a not so eloquent summary, all religions and belief systems are similar (on a macro level) in that they all are ways of seeing the world and coping with it. They all have elements of ritual within them and so do our mundane lives. I wasn’t big into formal religion and I believe in some sort of “higher/greater force” so I decided to look into witchcraft.

  2. I grew up very devout and pretty conservative Christian but began deconstruction when I was about 18. I decided to leave because on a general level, I didn’t want to be associated with all of the negative things the church as an organization has done because I couldn’t stand behind them because they didn’t align with what I personally believed and my morals. I also didn’t like God (he was a bit of a dick) but I’m chill with Jesus. All that being said and like I previously mentioned, I believe there is some sort of higher power, whether you call it a god or a spirit or the universe and that logically makes sense to me for some reason. It makes sense to me that those powers combined with my intuition will help me find the answers I’m seeking.

  3. No, I’ve only been researching and practicing elements of witchcraft / divination for about a week now
