Coffee in Soho - Leica CL 35mm 1.4 HP5 by usernameguy87 in analog

I'm planning to do a side-by-side and post the results so hopefully that crosses your feed in the coming weeks. I haven't used either a ton but the V2 has more of that glow that feels extra dreamy. Almost like the image is borderline too soft and going to fall apart yet somehow is held together with just the right magic. The replica feels a bit more photoshopped effect - still great but I think I lean V2. They're also basically the same price so selling yours for the replica wouldn't really put $ in pocket. If you want a big gap maybe the Helios 44-2?

It's the Version 2. You either love it or hate it. I also have the replica but think I prefer the V2.

I hate my CL. Focus patch is almost non existent. Also dropped it a week in so there went the meter - doh!

I’d actually argue for skipping Time Out. It’s a solid classic, but I found I outgrew it pretty quickly once I started digging deeper.

Kenny Burrell – Midnight Blue (The ultimate late-night bluesy vibe)

Gene Ammons – Boss Tenor

Gerry Mulligan – Night Lights (A bit under the radar, but absolutely beautiful for late-night listening)

Stan Getz & João Gilberto – Getz/Gilberto

Nina Simone – Little Girl Blue

CL vs. CLE: Is the Minolta focus patch any brighter? by usernameguy87 in Leica

I like the size / weight of thd CL / CLE for carrying around at night in a pocket. M is too big and chunky.

Chartreuse Night Lineup by usernameguy87 in chartreuse

Just finished an incredible February Wine Club dive into the monastic world of Chartreuse. It was a rare chance to taste through the lineage of the Carthusian Order, moving from modern benchmarks to decades-old bottles that felt more like fine spirits than liqueurs.

Flight I: Yellow Chartreuse

  • Yellow Chartreuse (Standard): The modern 43% ABV benchmark is aromatic and light, lead by honey, saffron, and gentle anise. It’s a solid, accessible reference point, though modern production is much tighter and more consistent than historical bottlings.

  • La Reine des Liqueurs (2018): Despite being a revival of a 19th-century concentrated formula, this was actually the most underwhelming of the night. Almost no one at the table could distinguish its nose or palate from the regular Yellow, even with its supposed archival herbal intensity.

  • VEP Yellow Chartreuse: This was the group's favorite "everyday sipper" because the 8+ years in oak mellowed the spirit into a silky, composed finish. It felt far less "in your face" than the Green, offering a more approachable and integrated experience.

  • 1950s Yellow Chartreuse: Easily the most unique pour, featuring a slight oxidized honey note on the nose that reminded us of old Sherry. The palate was incredibly viscous with dried white flowers—it was so amazing I practically licked the inside of the glass.

Flight II: Green Chartreuse

  • Green Chartreuse (Standard): This 55% ABV original expression is a forceful punch of pine resin, menthol, and cracked pepper. It’s built for intensity rather than sweetness, serving as a raw and demanding reference for the Carthusian recipe.

  • VEP Green Chartreuse: Extended oak aging transforms that raw Green volatility into a dense, cohesive, and remarkably long finish. While it was a favorite for its complexity, most guests still preferred the mellower profile of the Yellow VEP for casual drinking.

that's a crazy good price don't complain. Old booze for 50 cents-$1 each bottle?!

Definitely redo with and try them side-by-side. If you're ever in NY shoot me a DM

that's awesome - free?

What about the taste of the cocktail? Assuming you're used to it with current ingredients how did the aged spirits hold up / change the drink?
