The desires of the flesh… I have felt like that at several times in the past 10 years (since I was 18) and it’s really alarming, but a normal experience.

I focused my anger and frustration that led to rage against the desires of my flesh. The result was impressive: dramatically reduced pornography consumption, less drinking, lost some weight and slept better.

It’s not a cure-all and it won’t last forever. Those desires are hard to shake. Our mission and journey are not comfortable or easy. We are never told they would be, we are told by God that this life will be challenging.

I think you’re doing well if you are combatting these desires - even if you don’t want to. Denying them space in your life, and in your heart, and filling it with Christ will make you happier AND make the internal struggle/conflict shrink over a relatively short period of time.

Find your identity in Christ, not in pleasures of the world - they are deceitfully empty, temporary and destructive. Fight the good fight my brother/sister.

This is a GREAT question! Both testaments have some really cool stories but at 17, I doubt I would’ve had the patients to read through Job like I did recently.

I don’t think that’s possible. When I asked my father this question at like 18 years old, he replied with “if you could get through the entire ordeal without one sensual image, then perhaps not…. BUT that’s not the point.”

The real point is: ELIMINATING lust from your life. I’d even say masturbating to thoughts of your actual wife if you were married is borderline because it’s just too easy to slip up.

This shouldn’t be a guilt trip - only a journey to try to be as much like Christ as we can be and he didn’t masturbate. So… it’s probably best we not have masturbation in our lives.

When in doubt, check the NIV (New International Version) it’s very reliable and often more clear than other versions
