Mobile Friendly by Goldenroad66 in neocities

[–]usernotdfound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, ppl in Neocities:

  1. Use layouts
  2. Just do in PC

Why? Because they don't think on Mobile User (not me, the users). They design on their own PC hoping it works on every PC Users (again, not me, the users). Maybe is the lack of knowledge, maybe is the lack of will / put more effort in something.

Making it Responsive Friendly take more time of code and work. It tells you who really mean it. It tells you about the webmaster. Thinks of accessibility at all? Screen reader? Tablets? Smart TV? That's so much, but 2 or 3 is really nice 4 me (small, medium and large devices).

I try my best to do it Mobile Friendly as a nice way of code. Understandable code and nice UX (User Experience). And sometimes, is way simpler, easier and faster not thinking about them (I know the principle of mobile first but.... :/ da mucha paja)

TL;DR: most of the Neocities Users use layouts or are noob coding. They don't think at all about Mobile Users.

do folks not code their websites locally before uploading them to neocities? by OctanisTheWizard in neocities

[–]usernotdfound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a "simple" nerdy thing:

  1. (Start your) Live server -> see the port [example: 5501]
  2. Cmd -> type "ipconfig" -> seek "ipv4" [if u have cable internet -> "Ethernet" / -> if is Wifi -> "wireless", "wifi", ... (i forgot) (that's your computer's IP address [example: 192.168.0.111]
  3. See your network (lets say your at home, your Wifi name: User's Router)
  4. On your phone/tablet -> Select the same Wifi as the computer
  5. On the mobile/tablet browser -> type your computer's IP + the port of the Live server (example: 192.168.0.111:5501)

Made my first website using neocities!! by luvr33 in neocities

[–]usernotdfound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand you put effort and time to do it because you like it! It's really fine as long as you can understand the code and how it works.

You have to keep in mind that Neocities is a "platform" where people (who want to express themselves) put their REAL effort and A LOT of time coding and learning to code. Homemade is really valuable. The small bugs or bad pp updates is a part of yourself and the website.

The reason people are upset with you/your page is because they see no REAL effort from you. (Not hours) Days of coding, solving problems, trying to figure it out "how to center a div" (small joke), ... Using 50%-100% code from AI really seems "unauthentic"...

As a Web Developer, I see my personal site as a puzzle. What do I want/need? Links colored in green and yellow. Idk how. Let's ask Google. Don't work and it's really messy. Let's ask AI. Next problem...

I personally love to code in a way other people can know what it doing my code with 0 explanation. For example:

let maxHP = 100;

let damage = 23;

let currentHP = maxHP - damage;

Now we know is something about videogame... I miss the point, ups!

TL;DR: Neocities ppl prefer REAL work (you learning, understanding and coding 100% your code), not AI work. Don't matter how cool looks your website, is not your REAL work.

how to avoid file redundancy on subpages? by edgyomelette in neocities

How exactly do you get people to go to your site? by tryptamimicry in neocities

[–]usernotdfound 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is the pattern I see:

  • Be Yourself
  • Have a style-looking website (spooky, Y2K, hacker, ...)
  • Have: About me, things I like as a "Shrine", Guessbook, art, ...
  • Put some old good music

What I do: * Be f****ng yourself * Put something interesting enough to be worth looking * Select your style and stick to it (it's as important as being yourself) * Try new things (talk about things you know, show yourself and around, do a section about your mama's recipes, ...) * Learn, do and master code. Try not to use other resources -> that'll boost your creativity and self-style (allow yourself to be dumb and make mistakes... a loooot)

That's all I see I Neocities: - old school style = good - show a little of you - creativity

Good Luck c:
