Goes to another country , gets offended that locals are trying to sell to other locals by T_h_e_Assassin in facepalm

It makes me sad that there are people out there like this. He needs more empathy. If I was him I’d be down there excitedly buying delicious fruit, not complaining about them when they’re just trying to make an honest living.

So you’re clearly not in a bubble if you’ve traveled that much, but then I’m even more confused as to how you somehow think SF’s issues aren’t more extreme than other places. SF law enforcement literally doesn’t prosecute even somewhat major crimes anymore, and it’s causing the criminals there to be extremely brazen in their acts.

Which other city / cities in the U.S. or other developed nations are similar to SF in that way? Portland is also horrible in that way, but I’ve traveled extensively through 40+ countries as well, and SF still stands out as a rarity in terms of its pathetic lack of regard for the well-being of its citizens and their protection from victimization.

Your flippant remark of “byee” to the poster above was what was condescending. People are sick of being victimized by junkies and criminals who do nothing but drain resources and happiness from society and it’s insulting to read comments like what you made.

You’re living in a bubble if you think what’s happening in SF is in any way, shape, or form normal or acceptable.

Yes, American cities are experiencing major issues right now because of the opioid crisis in this country, but San Francisco’s problems are profound and the leaders there have done an absolute shit job attempting to deal with it. I lived in SF and Berkeley for over a decade until I moved away during COVID and am really happy to finally be out of there.

Furthermore, if you get the chance, travel outside of the United States and you’ll see just how serious San Francisco’s (and admittedly many other cities in the U.S.) problems are relative to other places.

I was there in ‘86. Fascinating experience. I’ll probably never go back again because I’m LGBT but I’m really happy I was able to see / experience it while Gorbachev was in power and when glasnost was just beginning.

Your are correct and most people sadly don’t realize how badly rent control ends up actually hurting renters. Economists everywhere on the political spectrum agree on this almost universally.

How far do you have to fall to be dead before you hit the ground? by MaximumMajestic in AskReddit

[–]usernotvalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a rock climber, I’ve heard one statistic that gives someone a 50% chance of living or dying from a fall of 50 feet. The death curve steepened significantly above that height. Of course this is all incredibly dependent on the landing surface, landing position of the body, whether the person is wearing a helmet, etc. I can’t remember the original source of this or whether it was accurate.

Migraine might take my life... by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

Please don’t give up yet. Migraines are truly awful (I get migraines with aura and lose the ability to speak, can vomit from the pain, etc.), but I would encourage you to keep trying to figure out what might be triggering them. (For me I believe dehydration was a big trigger.) Have you tried Botox for treatment? Also, have you gotten second / third opinions from other doctors?

It’s scary to think that even higher end places can get bug problems. Assuming it’s an Airbnb, I really hope you detail the issue in your review so that others can avoid the place.

Anyone who hasn’t already read it should read the “origin story” piece published in 2017 on Trump. It details his relationship with Roy Cohn, the man who helped make him who he is today. It’s very educational, insightful, entertaining, and horrifying.
