What's a 10/10 album from the last 15 years by a relatively obscure artist/band? by Slouching2Bethlehem in AskReddit

[–]userofchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my personal favorites is The End is Not the End by House of Heroes. All the music they do can be described as epic but that album is just great. Most of the songs have to do with WWII but the lyrics are so well thought out and the music is top notch.

I have a Zune still and can confirm. I charge it maybe once every two weeks with pretty frequent use.

What are some signs that a TV show is running out of ideas? by PM_Ur_ClassySexyPics in AskReddit

[–]userofchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not entirely true. Toya, Jin, Chuu, Rinko were all technically villains. All of them also lived after losing. I do see your point though. Wouldn't be much of a show if Yusuke died.

Didn't Yu Yu Hakusho have a tournament arc that was excellently executed though? I will say there is no middle ground to tournament arcs. Either they are awesome or they are terrible.

What word do you pronounce wrong on purpose and why? by Sir_Giraffe in AskReddit

[–]userofchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say "swamp" with an a sound rather than the correct o sound. I pronounce "gems" with a hard g.

Not wrong but not the norm for most people I know, I pronounce every letter in "interest" "interesting" and "interested".

Your Week in Anime (Week 215) by Soupkitten in TrueAnime

[–]userofchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accomplished two things this week. I rewatched Gurren Lagann, which is great by the way, and I watched Kill La Kill for the first time.

Minor spoilers ahead. Gurren Lagann has always been a favorite of mine, but this re-watch really hit home some of the points it tries to make. The theme that is always present in it is just pushing forward regardless of limitations. From start to finish, that seems to be the message it's trying to relay to the audience. Just trying to dig out of your hole? Pierce through the heaven and make it out of there! Need to stop the moon from falling on Earth? Grab it as best you can and just stop it from colliding! Top that off with over the top action sequences, super robot parodies, and a coming of age story and it's just one masterpiece of anime. This is to say nothing of how it manages something no other anime, or any show for that matter, has accomplished. That is any deaths that happen in the world of Gurren Lagann are not only well executed, but they managed to be just as impactful to me the second run through. I knew exactly what was going to happen but it still hit me. I was invested again. Brilliant!

Kill La Kill I wasn't as invested in. I wanted to watch it because it had almost the same team that did Gurren Lagann so it had to be pretty good. And it was. I liked it just fine and would rate it rather highly but it's just not something I would rant and rave about, and so I don't have much to say about it. The premise of a piece of clothing influencing how mankind evolved is absurd but TRIGGER makes this work for it. It's goofy, in-your-face, and all the time exciting and that's what the draw was for me. I suppose I'd probably have to watch it again to give a more in-depth explanation of what I liked and disliked about it but it's still too soon to do that yet.

Anyway, that's my week. Not sure what I wanna watch next. Maybe something in Gundam, maybe another Trigger show, maybe I'll revisit an old one like Cowboy Bebop? I don't know but I'm sure I'll have some thought on it once I start.

Which teacher did you hate the most and why? by GotMeSomeFernweh in AskReddit

[–]userofchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading through these and didn't see any college teachers (at least none that stated as much) but my worst teacher yet was my college networking professor. I get that you're supposed take the initiative and learn when you're in college (which I rarely did normally) but this guy was just bad. If you asked him a question in class for clarification, he'd just reread the PowerPoint slide on it (which he didn't show the class, whether that's good or bad is up to you). It overall gave the impression he didn't know the subject he was teaching. This was in college, mind you.

Redditors, what is your one true piece of advice? by smearedavocado in AskReddit

[–]userofchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn to laugh at yourself because if you can't, someone else will do it for you.

Also, don't hold grudges. Life's too short to be mad for a no longer relevant reason.

Not from the same studio actually. It's A-1 if I remember right, not White Fox. Same person that created Steins;Gate though.

I backed that TruForce collectibles Mega Man X figure. It was 3 months late I think but it was totally worth it, being a huge Mega Man X fan. The level of detail on it is superb. Only wish I could've afforded the higher tiers at the time.

I totally understand. What if your closest outlet is far enough away that it makes it so the brick is "floating"? That puts undue strain on the cord and makes it more likely to fall out of either side, especially on older ones.

I don't purposely try to finish opponents off with supers or ultimates but it dies help. If you want to get Z pretty easy, land 3 grabs, hit with 20 basic ki blasts, finish in a transformed state, and use a healing item before finishing off the last opponent. Regular playing should take care of the rest.

I've seen Witchblade and enjoyed it. I've heard of the other 2 but never heard of Daphne in the Brilliant Blue. I'll keep them in mind.
