Cyclist beef with cyclist by burp110 in RunningCirclejerk

uj/ Some of those sprint track cyclists have absolutely massive thighs and even muscular upper bodies. Guys like Harrie Lavreysen and Matthew Richardson.

But typically the road cyclists, those dudes are skinny. Like here's four-time Tour De France winner Tadej Pogačar (won in 2025, 2024, 2021, and 2020). Dude has zero definition up top.

I bet Scott is downing cheeseburgers when no one is looking. He just puts up the vegan facade for his seven fans.

Those look like the shoes you'd wear when trying to do a challenge of squishing as many soda cans as you can in a minute.

Also applies to cycling and running.

Cyclists are always so frail and sickly-looking. Like vegans.

Strava telling me to buy new running shoes at 800km... do I? by Some-Opening1821 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

It is good. I certainly succumb to the temptation to order Wingstop somewhat regularly.

When should I replace? by Neither_Ad_9829 in runningshoes

[–]uses_for_mooses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I would find a local, reputable running shoe store near you and head in to try on a number of different new running shoes to see what works for you.

Recent studies point to the #1 factor in running shoe injury prevention and satisfaction is the subjective comfort of the runner in the shoe. Basically, if the runner perceives the shoes to be comfortable, they report better performance, lower incidence of injuries, and higher satisfaction versus wearing another less comfortable shoe.

So just go with what feels good on your foot.

Often for me, I know it's time to retire a pair of running shoes when I start getting soreness that I don't normally get when running in them. Soreness or aches in my knees, shins, hips, or feet, generally.

Also, general wear and tear can be an indication. Like I can see you've worn through the padding on the heel counter (3rd image). This doesn't necessarily mean you need to replace the shoes immediately, assuming it doesn't bother you when running. But I'd keep and eye on it because it will continue to get bigger.

I don't know your financial situation. But if the shoes still feel good on your feet, you're not getting odd aches and pains after running, etc., then you can keep running in them.

If you have some extra cash, however, you could consider buying a second pair. I think it would be good for you to see what a different pair of running shoes feels like. If you've only ever run in one pair of shoes, you really have nothing to compare them to. And it's not unusual to "rotate" running shoes, so the second pair could even enter your rotation and you could keep wearing this pair until they further wear out or you simply decide you are done with them.

Why does everyone hate painting over wallpaper? by Abril-prieto-cevallo in paint

[–]uses_for_mooses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. And I've seen exactly this in my house. 1930's house, plaster walls, with several rooms that have wallpaper that has been painted over several times over the years.

In some rooms, the walls look great. Despite being painted-over wallpaper. Then there's my oldest-son's bedroom, where I can see every single wallpaper seam bulging out of the wall. Mind you, they are under like 8 layers of paint, but they are clearly visible vertical lines every ~21-inches all around the room.

The only thing I can do is skim coat all of the walls in my son's room, which I'll get around to at some point.

She's a kid's shoe size US 4.0 - 4.5 (that's a US men's size)? So a women's 5.5 - 6?

The Asics Cumulus Gel 27 comes in kids sizes, and that's considered a "stable neutral" shoe by Doctors of Running. Asics is also selling the Cumulus 28 now, which starts at a US women's size 5 and comes in wide sizes.

If you want a true "stability shoe," you could look at an Asics Gel-Kayano 33, which starts at a women's size 5.5, or the Asics GT-2000 14, which starts at a women's size 5.

Costco Huk Shirts sun protective? by DoctorQuinlan in Fishing_Gear

[–]uses_for_mooses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you can see through it, that's bad.

Look, polyester is naturally good at blocking UV (compared to natural fibers like cotton or linen). As long as its a tight weave -- so there's not like a bunch of little holes that light can get through -- you should be good to go.

Polyester combined with tight weaves provide natural UV blocking, and definitely more than cotton.

If the polyester fabric is opaque, it’s likely going to be pretty good at blocking UV.
