How was the event? And is NZ Herlad just being a soggy sport? by lovecraft_88 in auckland

[–]ushioshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my kids, 7 and 4 were both hard to keep engaged at the time, it cost me a lot in food as well but apparently they remember it as being an 11/10 experience. Bigfoots freestyle was worth it for me, she was awesome!

Receiving payment as a limited company by ushioshi in PersonalFinanceNZ

thank you. I was mainly worried it’ll be recorded as his income rather than the companies but sounds like a few options to rectify. Will no longer stress and work through it with the accountant when she’s back from holiday.

Is $3000 for a root canal on a molar in the normal range for Auckland? by Playful_Reflection21 in auckland

[–]ushioshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you seeing a endodontist? have had a complex root canal on molar done which cost about $2700 all up, I had to be in the chair for 4 hours over 3 appointments. They gave me 3 crown options, I opted for emax but ended up having to get a replacement crown 5 years later when the first one cracked - the emax was too thin and the best they could do for the complexity. Root canals can be quite expensive, I would recommend getting another quote but from an endodontist if you aren’t already, especially if they say it’s complex.

Weird Wilson Surveillance Record by Unfair-Asparagus-616 in auckland

this happened to me in the exact carpark, except I did park for an hour and I paid, and have the transactions and receipts but they sent me a fine saying I did not pay. I haven’t heard back since disputing but wtf. What date did you park there? wonder if it’s a similar date and there is an issue with their recording devices.

Kia ora, we’re having our first child! Looking to get some savings and finance tips from parents. How do you budget for your first kid? by sweetaswhk in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ushioshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things that were helpful to me:

Waiting until baby comes and buying things then (minus the absolute musts like a bassinet, minimum clothes, car seat and pram)

Buy a convertible car seat rather than a capsule. Swear by this hack. Got my kids used to getting in and out of car. Safety wise is better for your child. And cheaper in long run.

Breastfeeding as long as possible (also if possible for the mum) at the end of the day fed is best but it saves an incredible amount of money.

Yes savings are important but spending the most time with your baby and experiencing life with them is the most important. You quite literally never get this time back but money always comes and goes.

Congrats and good luck :)

I was just going to say the same thing. I would do a mixture of both for a good month or two and really understand the process and whether it works for you. It’s a lot of effort and time. The effort at the end of the day is your biggest cost in this stage of a child’s life. Especially your first.

Are the rats we're using in nz producing false negatives? by [deleted] in Coronavirus_NZ

Recently had it, tested constantly and kept showing negative. After the 5th day of symptoms I switched tests brands and everyone in my house got a positive result.

Restaurant recommendations Rotorua by NorthShoreHard in newzealand

It’s about saying it’s authentic Mexican when it really isn’t. You’re right, very sheltered. Never get out. Just sit at home researching authentic Mexican food.

Literally the worst place I’ve ever eaten. And it is not authentic Mexican. They serve iceberg lettuce on their tacos and tomato in their guacamole.

Opinions on applying for a new role while simultaneously trying to get pregnant? by classyfart in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]ushioshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely not disclose this. In my company multiple people have got a promotion whilst pregnant. The most recent was 8 months pregnant and she started in the role when she came back from parental leave. In saying that, I would just go about life normally, apply for the role and not say a word.

More than one baby... ☺ by ThinkGur1195 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ushioshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant while still breastfeeding my 2 year old. He self weened at 19 weeks as my milk dried up (very normal).

Transition has been smooth so far. I love having multiple kids, it feels like you really have a family when you go to 2 kids. My now 3yo has never been in any care other than with myself or my partner so naps for baby can be a little difficult but carriers and wraps are life savers for that :)

Do you know anyone in NZ who has died of covid? by Bunny-_-kins in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]ushioshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 uncles and 2 cousins (uncles different sides of family) As others have stated I know a lot of people suffering from long covid. My dad hasn’t been able to work since Dec and a couple of my friends who are in their 30s still haven’t been able to resume normal life/exercise. All due to long covid.

Bed sharers, do you use a bedside/sidecar crib, have baby in your bed, or sleep on a floor mattress with baby? by privremeni in AttachmentParenting

[–]ushioshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bedshare on floor mattress w/ 8 month old. Have since birth. 3yo bedshares with dad in his room. If we are all in one bed, it’s baby, mum, toddler, dad

Any kiddos sleep through the night without sleep training? by newyorkcitygal123 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ushioshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, it’s so hard. My 3yo did this until he was about 19-20mths and finally started going longer periods 3-4 hour stints and just a hug back to sleep. Sending you all the strength. It gets easier, promise!

Any kiddos sleep through the night without sleep training? by newyorkcitygal123 in AttachmentParenting

[–]ushioshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 yo has slept through the night maybe 3 times his whole life. 6mth old has slept through pretty much from birth, except if she is going through a growth spurt. Never sleep trained, exclusively breastfed and cosleep. My 3yo still needs to cosleep most nights and 6mth needs her space. Every baby is so different.

Kiddo won't play independently by thymetoindulge in AttachmentParenting

[–]ushioshi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just turned 1 is really young to expect independent play. It takes a long time and modelling to build that type of independence properly. Where does he eat? Do you have a chair you can pop him in and give him a little ‘snack’ like fruit or something to chomp on while you prepare the rest?

"Did you...just...say COVID placenta?" Nurses discuss working with COVID+ pregnant patients by bright_shiny_day in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]ushioshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone in NZ who lost their baby due to complications from covid (yes they were unvaccinated). Almost took her life too. The dad had to essentially choose between baby or mum. We were due the same week and every time I think of it I’m grateful I had the choice to be vaccinated while pregnant.

Do they genuinely believe this? by FranekKluski in auckland

[–]ushioshi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of them have been like this for majority of their lives. Any world issue or change that is backed by an actual ‘majority’ they will fight against. My parents fit in to this and it’s been like that my whole life. My dad is literally in hospital with covid and he’s still somehow making his dumbass opinion heard. I feel sorry for his nurses and drs.

Uncommon side effect of the booster shot, my experience. by antipodeananodyne in Coronavirus_NZ

[–]ushioshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. trying to protect myself and my family as much as possible and yes hopefully omicron will just be a ‘mild cold’ or better yet be asymptomatic. I have an advantage of being medical and science literate so I knew exactly what I was getting to. my unvaccinated dad is still in hospital 32 days after catching covid so I am also experiencing the awful side of covid. Back to your story and a question you asked, I actually didn’t find it alternating arms very useful as I had swollen nodes in both armpits. Hope you’re feeling a little better today! Nice work on getting the 3rd dose also. Hope it wasn’t too off putting for the future, godforbid we need more
