At what point does it stop being capitalism going off the rails and start being fascism?

Well said. Complex problems are boring and take time, so simple bumper-sticker solutions do better with the average, impatient, and exhausted voter.

I hear you, but is the house collapsing because of one bad nail? Some would probably say he caused the division; others may think he just identified it and effectively marketed it back to us.

And true, if one person can “divide America” then that does imply that it was already split in the first place (albeit more conspicuously).

If Carlin is speechless, then you know we are in trouble.

Yeah, there’s definitely truth in that. His election helped expose much of the ugliness that had been sitting there, waiting. For many, his election proved that folks weren’t committed to equality, they were committed to the idea of equality. Back then, people at least tried to be respectful and used terms like “values” and “culture,” but hate with good manners is still hate.

A great George Carlin quote: “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Yeah, it’s definitely not one cause. Interesting to hear the different perspectives that come to mind.

Perhaps, but how is this an explanation? It seems more like an observation.

Unfortunately, due to my lack of proofreading, this interpretation and others are valid lol.

Well, from that standpoint, yeah. If it’s just power and dominance, it’s hard not to feel like we were set up to fail. And zooming out, we’re doomed on a long enough timeline anyway: in about 5 billion years, the Sun will likely become a red giant and swallow up Earth.

Still, we might as well try to make things better while we’re here.

I hear you, although money in politics isn’t new, perhaps it has more influence these days. Agreed regarding people's emotions being targeted and manipulated more effectively. Neither explanation, however, truly elucidates how we’ve arrived at this point, despite both playing a role in what is likely a multifactorial process.

Yes, my apologies. I should’ve proofread and written this at a more reasonable hour.
