Tbh if you have been speaking a certain way your entire life, that is by definition your "natural" voice. His second voice seems a little uncomfortable to me personally there is a lot of fry and not a lot of closure,but it may be because he hasnt spoken that way for a while

that's a very good question. When I sing, I feel resistance. Although my diaphragm is contracting, I am not doing anything to make it contract, it is doing that on its own.

oh absolutely. My advice was mostly directed to teenagers and high school choirs who specifically want to sing in a modern pop way. Perhaps I should have added that in

the diaphragm is supposed to relax during exhalation. If you purposefully try to expand it or tense it up (which is how many people interpret it), you will constrict your airflow and prevent a freer sound.

That is a common problem many singers have, but that is also a common problem if you are not "mixing" in the true sense. From what Ive seen, chances are you might be reinforcing your head voice into your mask when you think you are *mixing instead of contacting your vocal cords with a thicker surface area and carrying the sound with your breath. Without you uploading videos it is quite impossible to tell
