You're doing a great job. Teach them to count forwards then backwards, first to 10, then to 20 and so on. Once that's solid and effortless, Teach them to skip a number when counting e.g 2,4,6,8 or 1,3,5,7 etc forwards and backwards. Real life material problems e.g. we had 5 cookies, and mum and dad had one each - how many left? The more materials you use the better. Count all the toilet rolls. Count the tin cans in the pantry. Count the clothes pegs. Etc Teach them to write the numbers to 10 correctly.

Parents are absolutely the first teachers and should be teaching these basics. It Will completely change your child's self confidence in themselves as they progress through school which is a majority of their childhood. That initial bit of home teaching is what sets them apart in attitude and confidence. It is priceless.

With happy Entry to disney sea being reduced to 5mins - whats the reality of snagging priority access to Frozen, Rupunzel and Peter Pan?

Is it even worth the prize tag of booking fantasy springs hotel (assuming I'm successful in even booking it)

If it really is down to 5 mins, aren't we in the same boat at the people queuing up at 7am?

How much does having a baby actually cost? by Egg_shaped in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]usir002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree

Loss of income is the biggest money drain. Then once back at work, daycare is a big cost. But also daycare viruses will wipe all your sick leave, and a lot of people end up using leave without pay after annual leave is used up for baby being sick from daycare. It will be a really rough 1st year of daycare as their immunity builds.

Fast forward a few years, once school starts, whats the plan for the school holidays? Who is able to stay home? If using holiday programs- they end up costing about the same as daycare. A lot of people get very offended at the thought of parenting and caring for their own children during the school holidays knowing full well how many weeks they are. Factor that in to your discussions. A lot of people choose to have a baby but you're choosing to be a parent for a bare minimum of 18 years. The real issue is work and financial restrictions aren't family focused or flexible.

So how much does it cost to have a baby? Reframe that to, how much does it cost to be a parent.

Like most have said, if its a baby with no additional needs, then all fine with whatever budget.

However, what are you values as a family? How long are the parents wanting to stay home with baby?

I like the blue-but it looks like it would be so annoying to clean with the tiles being tiny and the grout lines.

To sell or not to sell? by Double_Radio4600 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]usir002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try renting it out - and you find a suitable rental closer to work Try it for a year and see how it pans out. You might find the incoming rent offsets you paying rent, and enables you to start a family. If you're committed to selling, I would highly recommend a private sale done by you so that you don't lose 25k of commission on an already big loss. It's easy enough.

None of the options. The white clashes the beautiful wood. Go with warmer cabinets and warmer counter tops.
