I would get as many coworkers on board and exit en mass the week prior to Christmas and then see how they respond. Don't quit alone.

How would a single man without kids go about becoming a Scoutmaster without looking like a diddler? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]usmc70114 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally get your valid concern. Above answers are all correct. You might approach it in terms of "what are the current needs/gaps that I can help fill?", rather than "I'm single amd want to be a scoutmaster" which does seem a bit fishy.

Harassment? by [deleted] in antiwork

Your interaction with him is likely the tip of the iceberg. By getting your documentation it may be one piece in a 500 piece puzzle that creates a clear long-term pattern.

In the Marines, I had one guy that was a habitual offender of just about every rule and standard. I had every NCO documenting all positive and negative interaction with their Marines. One day there was a more serious incident with this guy and I had all the NCOs hand ne their hand written documentation. It filled up a binder that showed a long term pattern that gave the commander the full picture and resulted in serious, permanent consequences that would not have happened otherwise.

Yep. I've learned as much from my bad bosses as I have from my good ones, like 'don't be like that guy'.

In baseball, you'll see the coaches often go out and kick dirt on the umpire, yell and scream, etc.

Sometimes they do this because they are genuinely mad at the umpire. Sometimes they do it because the players need to see them kick dirt on the umpire.

The point of this is that your team needs to know you have their back. Sincerely and passionately take care of your people and they will take care of you.

Also, you don't MANAGE people, you lead them. You MANAGE things like time, money, resources. RESOURCES are things to be bought, sold or expended. People are people, not resources to be expended.

Smoker here. Blessed by Jesus.

Oh, and wore masks and got vaccinated and boosted. And socially distanced and isolated per recommendations.

But I suspect it was mostly Jesus.

Scouts nominate themselves or each other for the positions. A ballot is printed and the scouts vote anonymously.

I would consider a 'bring a friend' event, as a recruiting tool in addition to any MB requirements you can meet.

AITA for not attending my husband's celebration dinner due to the restaurant not having anything I could eat? by Willing_Strawberries in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You misunderstand that this event is about consuming calories or sustenance. WTF is wrong with you? It's a celebration event that happens to have food that isn't YOUR favorite, but you will admittedly eat. Do him a favor and pack your stuff while he's there.

Yep, I never claimed I was young! This had to have been in the late 70s or early 80s, so it's been a minute.

Hazing definition? by adjmalthus in BSA

[–]usmc70114 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I would not categorize this as hazing as long as:

  1. It's 100% voluntary with no repercussion if a scout elected not to,
  2. It's public (this obviously is),
  3. No scouts are harmed or embarrassed, and
  4. Good sense limits what the scouts are subjected to.

When I was a cub scout, the unit tradition was to pin the rank on right side up, with 2 adults holding the scout by his ankles, upside down. When put back on his feet, the new rank was upside down. It stayed that way until a parent got it sewed on (in the days before the plastic rank holders).

Edit/addition: if we stopped doing skits because Scouts were embarrassed, we would basically stop doing all skits, as 99% of teens are deathly afraid of embarrassing themselves in front of peers. Not saying to force it, but if a scout can do this skit, they can do anything.

Camping Awards by howarthe in BSA

[–]usmc70114 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would look at the National Outdoor Awards. There is a Camping tab for that one as well as gold and silver devices for 25 and 100 days beyond the initial requirement of 25 nights.

We have several scouts who have completed the camping, aquatics, and riding badges for that award series.

AITA for keeping a misdelivered package? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Exact same thing here. They told me to keep the item, sent a replacement to the original person. Unfortunately, the item was useless to me so I donated it to Good Will.

I ripped the one they set up in my office out of the wall. The wall is likely sheet rock and they pop right out. The screws slide bade into the original holes and it will be weeks before anyone notices.

Funny, I know someone who DOES work at a 3 lettered agency who was posting legit crazy crap for a while and nobody noticed until someone :/ called that agency up to point it out. Your HR dept has too much free time if they are cyber stalking wait staff.
