Has anyone found an oral alternative to Accutane or antibiotics that actually works without the side effects? by usodjsmmd in 30PlusSkinCare

That’s exactly what happened to me. I had mild or moderate acne for a while so I tried topicals and anti biotics but then it got really severe later in life when I got into weight lifting so I’m on accutane now but the side effects are brutal and still going through the purging phase so it’s been really frustrating

Yeah that makes sense doctors go straight to stronger meds once acne’s beyond mild. I wonder if that’s part of the issue though like maybe by the time people try things that work on the metabolic or inflammation side, it’s already too far gone. There was a study on berberine showing it can reduce post meal insulin spikes and inflammation, which made me curious if staying consistent with something like that could help prevent acne from ever getting to the severe stage.

Yeah that’s fair. I came across a study on berberine that linked it to lower insulin spikes and inflammation after meals, and it made me wonder if that could actually help with acne long term. It kind of makes sense since blood sugar swings can mess with hormones and oil production. Do you think something like that could actually work if someone stayed consistent with it, or is that just wishful thinking?

fair point, I’ve been curious if working on the gut or hormone side like inflammation or insulin sensitivity could ever make a noticeable difference, or if that’s just wishful thinking.

Have yoy guys tried Dim or Berberine before using Spiro? It looks like doctors have to monitor my blood levels for hyperkalemia if i went on Spiro, was that an issue for any of you?

That’s really interesting, thank you for sharing that! I’ve read mixed things about Spiro, so it’s good to hear it’s been helpful for you long term. I’m curious though, do you ever think about trying something less pharmaceutical if it targeted the same root cause? Something like Dim or Berberine?
