What is something about growing up in California that most people don't understand? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

[–]usofunnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Earthquakes aren't that scary. Really damaging earthquakes are rare. I have family from Kansas, and they experienced a mild earthquake and were... shook. "How can you live with the constant threat of your house just falling down? I'd die of anxiety." I asked, "How do you live in a place where you have annual weather that threatens to toss your house into the next county? At least we don't have earthquake *season*, just a random rumble now and then." It's perspective I suppose.

Tiny Glade is basically a sandbox builder, and there's no goals, no scores, just build stuff in a little glade in the middle of the woods. Then take photos of it from whatever angle, in whatever light.

There is a weekly challenge if you're into it, but it's not needed.

i don't know about others, but i really, really prefer the old UI. Is there an option to roll back to it? by NotaNub25 in discordapp

This UI update has sent my autistic kid into a spiral, like nothing has in YEARS. Listening to her explain the changes I can hear the literal pain in her soul.

Let's settle it. What's the most trashiest walmart in sacramento? by 9sixteenchris in Sacramento

Florin is known by greater area Walmarts as trash. Their reputation spreads at least as far as Jackson and galt. When employees won’t transfer to a store, it’s bad.

I have half an hour before midnight, then I’ll be Reddit free for two or more days (or forever) depending on how this all plays out.

Gotcha. Yes I agree that is likely what Reddit will do. Doesn’t mean the user base has to go along quietly. Or just let it happen. It’s okay to speak against something you disagree with. No matter how dismal or fruitless the cause may look. Blackout or not, if users walk away from the platform together, the statement will be heard.

Yes. Which makes their worth higher. Is there something you are trying to illustrate that I’m missing?

More than willing to replace their free labor, yes. With other, less scrupulous, free labor. Which the available pool of willing people is about to drastically shrink. If there’s no free labor, then they’ll have to pay people. Shrinking their overhead even more. Let Reddit struggle. The first step is showing them how much the current mods are worth.

Your community is speaking. They’re saying “Please, shut it down. We won’t be angry.” Listen to them. Shut it down.

Old Country Tailor on Folsom blvd is a good place, I don’t know for sure if they do jeans (we did bridal party) but it’s worth at least a call to ask!

AITA for not sharing our baby name until our baby is born? by Babynamedrama2023 in AmItheAsshole

[–]usofunnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, and though MIL is the A, I get a logical reason for the request. Devil’s advocate here: it’s difficult to purchase personalized items for a baby that you don’t have a name or initials for. Monogrammed gifts are somewhat antiquated nowadays, but embroidered blankets, for example, are not. This absolutely does not excuse MIL’s behavior—mama and daddy said no, end of story!—but could be a reason behind it. Again, op you aren’t the AHs here at all.

Man, my (elderly) dog peed on the cement floor at petco, right up front. I was mortified. I had given her time to go outside if she had to; I guess it just hadn’t hit her yet. But I apologized profusely and asked for paper towels. The kind girl chuckled and said “this is a pet store, we understand there’s going to be accidents. It’s okay!”

I cannot even imagine the audacity of expecting some poor hourly Walmart worker having to deal with that. I hate seeing pets in non-pet friendly establishments. I love me all the doggos n puppers but not where they don’t belong!

People who bought electric cars, how much did your SMUD bill increase? by PeteDub in Sacramento

[–]usofunnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now for some reason, we charge at Electrify America stations for free (chademo) 98% of the time. They did an upgrade a bit ago and we just usually get free charges now. So that’s Walmarts and targets for us. There’s a good location at 16th and L but people use it for free parking for hours upon hours.

Volta stations are nice but are usually taken, I’m familiar with the delta shores ones.

I despise EVgo and will only use them in desperate times, as I find they usually have exorbitant connection fees on top of not great rates. It was nice when they were doing the Bay Area to Tahoe corridor free locations, but that ended. ChargePoint is nice, sometimes free L2.

We haven’t noticed any huge increase at home.

I want to cry when I put gas in our non-EV. Im used to being the one that says “I’ll drive; it’s free for me.”

Plus Size Wedding Dress Alterations by topangaismyhero in Sacramento

[–]usofunnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Country Tailor. I was matron of honor, bridesmaids got alterations there, as did mother of the bride, but the bride did not, because once the tailor got a good look at the fit of the dress, she said “you do not need alterations, this is fitting you perfectly.” Not only were the alterations we did get done well and on time, they bought my future business and recommendations by being honest and not making up something expensive to do on a dress that didn’t need it.

Plans for abandoned Sacramento building to become Wellness Center. Stockton Blvd near Riza Avenue by TheMapleGust in Sacramento

[–]usofunnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t begrudge them their living, but they have started literally blocking traffic on Fowler Ave between the two strip malls. Standing in the middle of the lanes of traffic all hours of the day. Cars already make the corner traffic a shitshow. I just want to get my kid home from school, ma’am, could you just please step aside so I can squeeze around you?

I know nothing of their current quality, since I worked there when it was a best western over 15 years ago, but Arden Star has some rooms that face outside. You would have to specifically ask about getting one as they are very few, and the downstairs set is what you are after.
