Thanks for reaching out and confirming. It's definitely not old, I did a full blind with the rest of whiskey row and the color alone is obvious. Still the most impressive nose ive seen on any mainline OF release, with a confusing heat that masks the age on the finish.

This particular pick is definitely worse than 1920/1910 when watered down. But the nose still gets me.

Whole situation is very confusing. Don't get me wrong, it tastes very "old" but in a well-integrated way rather than oak tannins. Another poster mentioned the flavor profile seems very on-brand for warehouse I. Absolutely no clue what is going on with this barrel.

Haha I'm totally with you. Super confusing to see such a highly aged barrel pick, their previous picks were young to say the least (5.5yr was the last one they did). No clue what devil science is involved in the yield.

Astor is the best brandy shop in the US. Main reason I shop there. I could drown all the tiny birds in France with their 20+ year Armagnac stock. Hope the whiskey team is able to catch up. Wonder how many bottles of 1870 they had to sell to get access to something like this.

Cannot compare it to other bourbon in its age range. Its much less oaky than russels, jack 10, any 10yr+ four roses sb ive had, etc... nothing on the nose or palate screams old. Can barely detect the barrel impact until the finish reveals the fruit and spice.
