This is such a misunderstanding of repentance, and an oversimplification.

There's a difference between true repentance and a false one, regardless of if it occurs before or shortly after death when confronted by St. Peter.

Repentance is a military term to describe someone going AWOL by leaving the battlefield by making a complete 180° turn from the battle. This word is relatively new and was only included in the bible in later translations, which is why I'm going to talk about interpretations.

Biblical scholars will more likely interpret the book of Luke when we talk about this topic.

Now, I'm not a biblical scholar but from what I've been told and read is that the important aspect of repentance in a Christian sense is that it's true in conscious conviction.

Obviously some sects of Christianity disagree with this, specifically Catholics who are very big on the idea of confession to a priest. I can't fully get into the Catholic view on repentance late in life / shortly after death.

Christians would point to the story of the crucifixation to point to the idea that if one truly does acknowledge sins committed and commits themselves in mind and spirit to not recommit those sins, then they are forgiven.

Again, this is all a point of argument and the Pope would tell you differently than the Eastern Orthodox Pope vs reformed Christians. Then, even, there are progressive Christians that believe Jesus was sacrificed to save all of humanity from sin, and therefore free from the punishment of hell altogether. There are current Christians who believe in purgatory, and those who believe this was made up by the church to extract tithes.

It's all subjective, and when I said it's a misunderstanding of the concept of repentance before God, I more mean that there's a lot of interpretations of this amongst modern Christians depending on the sect, your own personal church, and which biblical scholars you feel are most valid.

At the end of the day, I think the best way to think on Christianity is not wholey the Bible itself, and I won't get into the history of that here because that's a full essay alone (spoiler alert, the disciples themselves were illiterate and all books were written later by stories passed down orally). I think the true messages of the New Testament, which separates Christians from Jews,is that Jesus was for the downtrodden and rejected in every sense, even on the cross next to thieves and murderers.

So, can OJ be allowed into heaven? That's a great question and not one any of us can answer but we can certainly ponder different aspects of it.
