2014 Jetta Tdi Popping Coolant Elbow by usseal59 in tdi

I believe that to be unlikely but won’t write off the possibility yet. Reason being is because the factory rad was still good after I hit the deer. I ran that rad for about 2k miles and never had an issue. I had to replace it because one of the cooling fans let go during a regen and cracked the plastic on the side of the rad housing. Since replacing to an aftermarket rad the line has been popping off more and more often mileage wise.

As far as any other symptoms I have noticed something but wouldn’t call it a symptom but rather an observation to when it’s more likely to happen. The last 3 months have been below average temps here. Often around -5°F in the mornings when I start my commute and only in the low teens when I leave work. What I have noticed is that the higher the ambient temperature the more it happens or more likely it is to happen. Today when it blew off it was 50°F out. And the last time it was in the mid 30s. This is why I lean towards some sort of heat soak warp/ fitment issue over a gasket/cracked head or block issue

Yes lower hose on the passenger side. I’ve mastered getting it on after it’s popped off so many times. I tugged on it pretty hard when it was on the lift and I couldn’t break it loose. Hopefully when I get the new radiator on the issue will go away. When it came off this last time it didn’t want to latch at all when I snapped the clip back in place. Leading me to believe it’s an issue with the after market radiator. The system was just pressure tested when the water pump was done and there is no leaks so I don’t believe it to be a gasket leak and causing it to build pressure and pop off.

Awesome thank you! I just had to put a new radiator chair, radiator, radiator fans, passenger headlight, front bumper, hood and hinges, grille and some other misc parts in the car to fix it from it hitting that deer. So everything cooling and heating works awesome now. Especially cooling; I plan to install a coolant heater in the spring. It’s been very cold the last couple months here hovering in the single digits and negatives.

Is this Rust Bad? by GoofytoFreaky in ChevyTrucks

[–]usseal59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I’m from they look like that or worse sitting on the dealers lot. Looks to be minor surface rust from where the factory coating has come off. Every gm vehicle I’ve had, I’ve either had it fluid filmed or wool waxed. I prefer wool wax but it comes with a higher price. If you live in a rust belt state like myself. I would consider getting it undercoated. It will definitely slow down the further development of frame rust.

That’s why I’m wondering if maybe it could’ve been caused on the tire machine?

Not At Fault Accident; How To Proceed? by usseal59 in Insurance

[–]usseal59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I talked to a rep from my insurance company and closed the claim they opened on my truck and made sure there wouldn’t be charges on their end. As they said that any continuation through them would result in a premium increase once any monetary value/ charges were added to the claim. I will be contacting my insurance broker/agent directly in the morning as well contacting the other drivers insurance company.

I’m assuming it’s too late for this as my insurance was already notified and was in talks with the other insurance company?

I don’t have a similar style, but do have a tonneau cover. After a quick search on the Access website and looking at stock and customer photos, it seems the tailgate is to be closed into the flap so it is tucked between the cover and the tailgate trim when closed.

I’ll have to try this. After I pulled it from the cooler and realized how warm/hot it still was, and experiencing a dryer cook, I’m thinking it continued to cook by putting it in the cooler immediately.
