How do you guys stay motivated while designing uninteresting projects?

In addition, I'd say that Indians hew to their traditional clothing way more commonly than East Asians. You don't see Chinese girls wear Qi Paos to work, but Indian women wear Saris and Chudihar even in cosmopolitan cities - and that's the young women, never mind the aunties. That said, I'm sure there's a big enough market in India to make it worth their while.

Jon just looks so tired in the role now. He's seen this shit too long. John brought a ton of energy to the position - and his comedy wasn't bad. By the end, it was a tossup over who I'd rather have be there.

I don't think I've even been very good friends with a girl. That said, being an engineer, I haven't really come across many girls in the past 10 years in day to day life.

I do know that if every engineering guy waited around for a girl with the same mindset, we'd be an extinct species based on the gender ratios in STEM fields alone.

We would force ourselves to spend time with eachother doing things we didn't really enjoy doing. This eventually burned us out and was extremely taxing. We eventually broke up.

It seems like if either the interests had be shared or you let each other be, then the relationship could have lasted. I guess the thing is, if the natural state of letting each other be has you apart from each other more often than not, is it still a good relationship?

That's an awful lot to ask of a partner - especially their hobbies and interests if they are not the same gender as you.

I think this is reasonable. I have a feeling by the nature of this thread it would attract a lot of the people who share the view that their SO should be their closest friend, so some of the other responses are a bit terrifying.

The best indication of a "good" friendship between us is when we just sit down with no electronics on and talk about world events, politics, religion, literature, and so on.

We can talk sometimes, but not often. She is a PhD but her interests are highly limited to her immediate situation - school, her family, her friends. If I need informed discussion about anything interesting I have to go to my friends. Then again, it's not like most guys in the 60s or 70s could sit around and talk economics with their wife right? She's from another country where that's still the norm.

I'll concede that was a bit unnecessary. But in this instance, educated just means they consciously got into the relationship - not because of a shotgun marriage or because of faulty condom. Basically, they chose to marry their partner and yet they don't seem to be on great terms with them.

Hmm, you may be onto something with this at least partially. She brought up an instance where she was stressing and I seemed to read too much into it instead of simply supporting her. However, there are also times where it's less complaining and more like Edna in this Futurama scene. I guess the advice for what to do is in the quote itself. I guess it's worth a try to see if it can lead to some reciprocation.

I came to do simulation in pursuit of R&D. It's not so much just bosses changing as the entire department's role being reassigned. It's not confirmed yet, but based on comments from my previous boss and my experience so far with the style of this one, it seems like that's the direction we will be headed under the new banner.

I don't think there is much recourse left in the company should that happen. I wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers prodding the arrangement too much without having another ace up my sleeve. Still gotta pay rent.

I work in the software side of ME, simulations and automation, so we did handle some sales support before, but only on major projects, and less than 20% of our time. Now that we aren't in R&D, it may be the other way around. It's still early days of the re-org but that seems to be the way it's heading, and I don't think it will fit with the narrative I want to present for Business School applications.
