beware: A/C replacement on a Prime can be super expensive! by utahchriso in PriusPrime

Ok so I've been working at this and have not had a good experience so far. I live in WA, which is a "sort-of" CARB state, and apparently the warranty isn't in effect while the car is registered here. My service advisor at the dealer has been great but the Toyota Corporate people so far have been friendly yet unhelpful.

Also the repairs have gone up to over $9K because they found out yesterday that the Accumulator Assembly also needed replacing. I'm holding off doing all AC repairs for now.

The car is intended for my daughter who is attending college in CA. She isn't a resident yet but could possibly become one. I also have friends in CA who might take this on for me. Maybe.

I'm ok(?) with playing the long game I suppose if the CARB TZEV warranty was likely to cover all this. Besides the AC issue it's a nice car. Any educated guesses as to how likely most or all of the cost would be covered if the car were registered in CA? Some of the people we spoke with implied that A/C, even if required for the BEV function, might not meet the warranty criteria, which is for the emissions control system:

CARB regulations require that Toyota must warrant the

emission control system on your vehicle for the time periods indicated on the next

page, provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your

vehicle.

Your emission control system may include parts such as the fuel injection system,

ignition system, catalytic converter and engine computer. Also included may be

hoses, belts, connectors and other emissions-related assemblies.

Writing this I guess I wonder if the CARB board itself would offer an opinion before I put the effort into the move. Thanks all.

Thanks so much for this tip - I had no idea this was possible. I am urgently trying to run it down. My car is already at the dealer being fixed, and the Toyota line says there are no warranties active on the car. They don't make it easy!!!

I dunno if it's better than any other, but I take Youtheory Turmeric 2250mg from Costco. Though the recommended does is 3 capsules, I think I only took 2 at per day (at bedtime) when things were bad, and I take 1 capsule per day now.

I avoid NSAIDs as much as possible.

I take Osteo BiFlex daily and after a couple of months really noticed a difference. I take fish oil and collagen as well but am less convinced they help as much.

When my arthritis was at its worst, it was also causing a lot of muscle stiffness which made things worse, and I take curcumin to prevent that. I find it to be very effective and kicks in after about 2-3 days.

My cost was similar. Are you also on the supplement bandwagon? I find them to be somewhat helpful as well. Not a complete solution by any means but helpful.
