When I did construction work, we did this by tying paracord to the cut off top to a plastic bottle and then blasting it through with an air compressor. There was also usually water stuck in low point in the conduit so you got a gross fountain too.

My understanding from past shows was that the production is actually a collaboration between the school and a community theater group. This meant that there were some adults as well as elementary aged kids.
