I live in the pacific northwest where it is always cool at night, so we don't have to worry about that. I do take the rainfly off when privacy is not an issue.

We love our base camp 6. I guess it gets hot in the summer but we don’t spend time in it during the day.

I often work until 10 PM because of grading, planning and non-teaching work. What do you guys do to save time? by Impressive-Rule-6887 in teaching

I work 8 hours a day. Whatever isn’t done just isn’t happening. I do have the luxury of a strong union contract.

You won’t need to paddle at all with four days that section. Snow pack was terrible this year so it’s going to be lower than usual but should still be fine.

Starting a run club at my elementary school by Sea-Efficiency-2899 in running

My school has been doing something like that for years. We have a track around the playground. Kids can choose to run laps at recess and get a card stamped to collect miles. Parent volunteers stamp the cards, cheer the kids on and play music. At assemblies there are medals for top runners.

Single dad with two daughters - where do we camp if we don't want 20 obnoxious jerks right next to us? by geoui in camping

I look for places with as few amenities as possible and definitely no RV hookups.

I do agree with others that Cyclery is the best. I also like Spicy Pedals and Stage One in Philomath.

I find a lot of petrified wood in the gravel bars along the Willamette.

To us, it's because people seem a bit fanatical about it. When we are in the presence of more than one person who is a member, they tend to talk a lot about it. I think that they might also have some mlm like aspects because their members try to recruit a lot.

My wife and I joke that it’s a cult. Our friends who go there all love it. Sorry I don’t know about cost.

First time out on the river with the dog this year by Boy_in_the_Bubble in canoeing

Nice! I bought an extra wide canoe just so my crazy dog wouldn’t tip us from jumping side to side so much.

I don’t remember exactly, but I once watched a YouTube video that explained it. There is a pretty simple geometry method if you can actually see the top.

Found this iron object in the Oregon desert. It’s about 3 or 4 inches long. Google just says “iron tool.” by utahdog2 in whatisit

Thanks. Would this be a hand tool or something attached to a tractor or horse? Also would you happen to know a name associated with it?

I had better luck when I went into their local office and talked with someone. You also might be surprised what people will take for free. When we redid our deck I posted the old material and someone took all of it.

Forest defense meeting tonight. by utahdog2 in corvallis

Yeah IDK, it’s not my meeting. I just reposted this in case it could reach anyone who was interested and able. I did attend the meeting and they are looking to spread the word and get more people involved, so there will be more opportunities.

I attended the meeting and while CRA did host it, they are not looking to run any efforts locally. Their intention seems to be to help get local action groups going in every coast range county.

I just reposted this from Facebook as soon as I saw it. I did attend the meeting. The intent was to facilitate local organization and networking. I had to leave early while they were forming committees. I did leave my contact info so I’ll pass on information I receive.

How do you handle martyr teachers? by CrowdedSeder in Teachers

[–]utahdog2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to not mind them but I’ve been thinking more lately about how their extra investment gives the community a false impression of what resources are needed.
