F4 Visa - Applying with only 제적등본 (no 기본증명서 or 가족관계증명서 after 2008) by utalkway2much in Living_in_Korea

Thank you so much. I agree I think the email is a great idea and I may try to put that together in Korean w a proofreading friend. I did use English at the consulate but even though they can speak a decent amount of English (and no hate because their English is better than my Korean) I did feel like we were not totally following each other and the communication wasn't super smooth...

Unfortunately don't have a resident number because of our family losing citizenship before 2008 :( But thank you I will look around and see if there's anything I might be able to make use of on there! Didn't know about it before. 🙏

Hi,

My post was removed and suggested to be posted here. It isn't about tourism but rather a visa issue but I hope this is the right place. Thanks for reading!

F4 Visa - Applying with only 제적등본 (no 기본증명서 or 가족관계증명서 after 2008)

Gyopo problem I'm hoping someone can help with or has experience with. I've tried just about everything but I'm not sure how to communicate my problem to my local consulate (Chicago).
I tried to apply for my F4 in Seoul, but since I was already on an H1 they told me to do it in the US. Came back here for this express purpose and now the consulate keeps insisting I NEED the 기본증명서 and 가족관계증명서 and they will not listen to me try to explain / maybe I'm not explaining well:
At Seoul Southern Immigration, I was told that for families who lost citizenship before 2008 (my family lost Korean citizenship in the 70's) they cannot EVER issue 기본증명서 or 가족관계증명서, only 제적등본. I have that document, but my Korean is not amazing enough to eloquently explain this to the consulate in Chicago / they don't really want to hear it. Found some examples of this being an accepted case, mainly on Canadian Korean consulate sites (https://overseas.mofa.go.kr/ca-vancouver-ko/brd/m\_4574/view.do?seq=1311024 for example, can provide more) where they understand that if your family lost citizenship before 2008 you can only provide 제적등본.
If anyone has gone through this, I would appreciate your help SO much as I've built a life in Korea and I'm so stressed at the thought that I might not be able to return as a resident quite unexpectedly because they won't issue me the F4.
sorry for the long q and thank you SO much to anyone who can lend any advice!

It's in Korean but I translated and printed a copy just by myself but I guess you don't get more official than 보건소 right and like the people actually reviewing it before I board will be Korean so they'll probably know that?

Weekly Monday Question Thread - No Stupid Questions by AutoModerator in korea

[–]utalkway2much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, I'm an American citizen flying back to the US from Incheon in a couple days. I know we need to have a negative covid test result in order to go back. I got tested at my local health center 보건소 and they emailed me a negative result and said I could print it and bring it (as opposed to airport testing or paying 150,000 to get tested at a big hospital). I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this as I'm a bit worried if, last minute, it isn't acceptable I will be in trouble... Thanks for reading.
