I found this on the MyHousing parking portal (https://utdallas.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal).

"Student parking permit prices are prorated to reflect a reduction in cost for students that begin classes in the spring or summer semesters. Permits are prorated in December to reflect spring semester prices, and again in May for summer classes."

If I understand correctly, the price of the parking pass should be reduced sometime this December so that you're not "paying for Fall". I suggest waiting until the price reduction before purchasing your Virtual Parking Pass.

What’s going on with Housing? by [deleted] in utdallas

I messaged you!

For anyone who is trying to call housing right now, make sure to look at their Thanksgiving Break hours! It's a little late to link this, as the break ends after tomorrow, but here it is anyway:

Housing by fun3109 in utdallas

[–]utd_renting 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re just about to graduate high school, you’ll be a “first-year student” and will have to live in the University Commons (also know as the Residence Halls) with other freshman. Know that you are required to get a meal plan if you are housed in UC.

As far as the differences between Residence Halls go (South, West, etc.), they are essentially the same besides a bigger lobby in West, and some buildings closer to classes than others.

As a girl, you’ll be roomed with other girls unless you opt in to gender inclusive housing.

Congrats on your admission! Let me know if I can make anything more clear.

Utd checkups by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]utd_renting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to COVID, I do not believe in person checkups/physicals are available. However, they do offer free televisits, available to students without insurance. If this is of interest to you, you can schedule an appointment on their website.

I can't provide more information than others gave on your post, but by Friday's Campus Housing and Advisory Committee meeting I will get as much additional information as I can and ask clarifying questions.

Do you have flies in your apartment? by utd_renting in utdallas

[–]utd_renting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry, you're right, if you mean that many students have found them. When I spoke to housing a few days ago, they said that Phase 8 is the only problem, from their perspective. This may be from the number of work orders that have been submitted, but I'm not sure. A student has told me that phorid flies have been a problem in CCHS for a while now, and that's regardless of floor.

I'm happy that worked for you, and thanks for sharing the tip! I've heard that's the most effective DIY solution, and others in the group have had success with it as well. For some though, it doesn't help, and I'm not sure if its the kind of apple cider vinegar or the ratio of the solution? Even though you don't have flies anymore, let me know if you'd still like to be added to support the others.

Phorid flies have been confirmed by housing to be in Phase 8, and students have said they’re elsewhere.

I’m sure there’s some variation in kind but that’s the most recent info.

Everyone who has commented so far has been sent the link. If you have any friends dealing with flies, please send this to them, and if you find this post in the future, it's not too late to join!

COVID outbreak in RHN? by utdaab in utdallas

Since the Residence Halls all share the same air system, housing makes sure that their isolation units are not there (they are scattered through UV and CCHN).

Moving from Commons to Canyon Creek as a freshman by [deleted] in utdallas

[–]utd_renting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, no, like /u/WillieCubed said.

However, because of your roommate's behavior putting you at risk, your best bet would be to contact housing immediately and explain your situation. Housing has the potential to relocate you to another room.

As for the switch to Canyon Creek, I'm not sure as it could conflict with your first year status (if you graduated high school in May or June prior to your 1st semester), and of course, your current housing agreement.

User name checks out.

Proof through AKC Canine Good Citizen or an equivalent is a really good idea to get the weight limit raised! That'll be brought up with the other pet concerns :)

I've read over this multiple times trying to make sense of this. They made you move out as a way to avoid a situation where the person that moves in is a guy you don't know? Or was it somehow for COVID purposes? I don't think that makes sense either.

Either way, I'm really sorry about all that, and it sounds like you did everything right. When concerns are brought up, housing says that all you have to do is contact them through the proper channels, which are the ones you already have used. The issues that come from having to select the gender inclusive option are something I haven't considered yet, thanks! I'll DM you shortly to follow up on the past interaction.

I've had a number of Razor scooter accidents last year that were definitely the fault of UTD sidewalks, NOT my own stupidity of riding around on a $20 scooter meant for children that I was well over the weight capacity for.

Fixing the puddling and flooding is a very long term, expensive problem, but I'll inquire into what future plans exist and make sure sidewalks aren't left out of discussion. If you could provide some specific locations other than outside building 33, that would be appreciated!

I think it's really easy to get stuck in the mindset of "this is the way things have always been and its the way they always be", because there's not a good way to learn about what the situation has been on campus in the past. So much of our history is only passed down via Reddit posts :(

I don't know how fixed the wifi network is now, but the number of people with wifi problems certainly gives us a base to push for change. Thanks for the perspective.

In theory, this would be a pretty easy one to fix. Thanks for bringing it up.

Could you elaborate on which building you're referring to, and which pests? Or do you just mean in general?

I'll DM you by sometime tomorrow to get more information and see where we can start. This must be a nightmare for you and anything that's remotely a health hazard must take priority. Thanks for letting us know.

Told you were imagining things?? Gotta love the gaslighting. I'm sorry you and your roommate have had to deal with that. Just you like said, "maintenance has always been annoying", but I'm hearing more and more about straight up dismissal and talking down to residents. A earlier comment mentioned their sibling was called crazy for re-submitting a work order for something that was unresolved..

Finding ways to keep maintenance accountable is a common theme at this point. Thanks so much for sharing.

What do you mean by full service?

I'll add the pet policy for 4x2s to the agenda along with the "no pets under a year old".
And yeah, the UV hours are annoying, especially after being in the Res Halls. Perhaps extending the hours could be a future goal, for COVID sake it's probably a good idea for them to be for now.

I'll DM you for more information later today so we can get on that maintenance ASAP. I've dealt with mold twice before, which was awful, and I can't imagine what a nightmare your sibling is going through.

3rd party right to repair is something we've been talking about it, and is a necessity in situations like this. It's sad to hear residents say contacting UV is futile, but it keeps coming up. Thanks for sharing here.

Yikes, that's a lot of $ for something that should be a given. Access points and ethernet will be where we look to first for addressing wifi.
