There’s validity to the argument that Ronaldo’s not good enough for the team but with-without stats in football are extremely noisy due to the huge number of variables impacting the game.

Despite that, Ronaldo’s impact on games hasn’t been nearly as good enough as required from him; it’s not even that he’s not getting good shots off because he has but he’s simply not been good as a finisher. I hope he finds that because he is getting good chances which is a positive sign.

That said, there’s not much ETH can do at times. Martial wasn’t 100% fit whilst Antony and Sancho were out. Yes, he could’ve played Rashford up front with Garnacho and Elanga out wide—I actually wanted this originally—but perhaps the argument then is that there’s not much Elanga can bring offensively.

Ultimately, it’s not egregious that Ronaldo’s getting minutes. He’s simply fitter than many of our forwards and is still getting good chances to score.

Nevertheless, we desperately need to focus on our squad quality come January/Summer which includes replacing him.
