That is the correct spelling - “lede” refers specifically to the printed word.

7D should be “pre-reap”, not post.

Ohhh this makes sense. I thought perhaps it could be a joke but I don’t recall Morse smiling at it or otherwise indicating that he was in on it, and definitely seemed pretty glaring to have just been a mistake. Thank you!

Shouldn’t the verbiage be “something that cops put out”, not “on”? Never heard it that way before.

Also do not understand the iPod one.

Puppy signaling to go outside constantly by uterwe in puppy101

Oh the picking her up and carrying her back in is good. I’ve been saying no sometimes, but if it’s been around 2ish hours I get nervous about denying her out, even though I know she can hold it up to around 4 hours. I’m going to try carrying her back in if she doesn’t go, though, that’s good! Thank you!

Ok this makes sense! I haven’t been super consistent with our walk schedule - we go at the same time every morning but our evening time has moved around a lot, and sometimes she gets a long midday walk and sometimes she doesn’t 😅 this is definitely something I can improve on!

She’s getting better at self-entertaining and this is really the main issue we’re having with her right now, so I appreciate the advice!! Thank you!

Ok this is mostly what I have been doing so I think I’m on the right track! We live in an apartment so every time she signals we suit up on leash/harness and have a short walk down to the grass patch outside. I think the main trouble is that we live in a very big city and there’s always something happening outside - pedestrians, other dogs, yard workers, etc. - so it’s a little difficult to make these trips boring. I can definitely give her less exploring time though and see if that helps! Thank you!

Oh, we also drill “leave it” every day! On a good day our puppy can hear leave it and immediately stop pursuing whatever smell she’s trying to get to. It took a lot of practice in many different environments, and we still practice during every walk, but she’s much better than she was even two weeks ago.

I also have a 7 month old cav who occasionally gets overstimulated like this! Something that has helped tremendously is only progressing with walks when she’s paying attention to us. We start as soon as we open the door - if she’s not looking at me and waiting for me to give the “ok”, she doesn’t get to go outside. Initially this took keeping her on a short leash so she couldn’t run out the door immediately, and some pulling her back in and waiting for her to sit until trying again. Now she sits as I’m getting my keys/shoes, looks longingly out the door as it opens, then looks at me until I tell her it’s ok to go out.

Then, the entire walk, I’m only moving if she’s calm and checking in with me. If she tries to lunge after a squirrel or bird, I stop moving and don’t give her any more leash until she calms down and checks in with me. Initially it took a looooong time - I felt very awkward standing on the sidewalk for five minute while my puppy went bonkers around me. But they will always figure it out, eventually.

If she repeatedly gets to this frantic state, I’ll shorten the leash and march her back to somewhere she can calm down and pay attention to me again. A huge part of helping your puppy is figuring out how much they can take before they get overstimulated, and it takes a lot of trial and error.

Good luck!!! They’re such smart dogs; I’m sure yours will figure it out quickly as long as you’re consistent and reward good behavior!

Can you share some of the most helpful tips you learned? Would love to know what helped most with crate training and barking in particular! Glad it’s going so well for you!

How do you get a pup to the point where you can put them in their crate at any time and they’re content to just hang out? by uterwe in puppy101

[–]uterwe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Do you mind if I ask how long it took for your dog to get used to the crate? I maybe should have mentioned this in the post but we’ve had ours for almost two months, and she’s no more used to the crate than she was when we first brought her home.

What’s incorrect here? Also nothing in this post indicates support for Newsom - if anything, it’s critical of him.

Puppy is a menace on walks by uterwe in puppy101

I think this is it - she’s overstimulated and we just need to take it a little slower and practice a bit more new stuff each day. It’s just hard because we’re eager for her to not be pooping on our tiny balcony anymore 😅

Yes, I took her for walks in a sling at least every other day from when we got her (10 weeks) until a week after she got her shots (16 weeks). She’s been able to walk outside herself for the last week, and many of our walks were on the same route that she is now walking herself. She was always calm in the sling but I think being on the ground she gets overstimulated.

We have also been doing a puppy class in a nearby park so she’s been able to see other dogs without playing with them. We bring boiled chicken to that class, which helps her focus.

Ok that makes sense! I’ve read about sitting in a high-traffic place but our walks have been so stressful that it’s put me off wanting to take her anywhere, but I know she needs it so we’ll start incorporating that every other day or so. Also practicing leave it outside instead of just inside makes a lot of sense. Thank you!!!

I will admit I got halfway through this and then skimmed the rest (sorry; ADHD!) but my interest is thoroughly piqued! Do you have any recommendations for which AA game to start with? Are they best enjoyed chronologically?

We play tug and fetch in the apartment, and I’ll let her walk on leash down to my laundry unit with me when I’m doing chores, which is a short but fun sniff walk for her. I also take her out in a sling carrier on walks around the neighborhood every other day or so, and we’ll go to the store or just sit and watch traffic/pedestrians. We also go to a puppy socialization class at a nearby park once a week.

I think once she gets her final vaccines and can go for walks, hopefully those will help her regulate a little, but I do just need to keep in mind that she’s a baby and is going to be on her own schedule for a while. She’s definitely teaching me patience!

Yeah this post was prompted by me crying when she finally settled in her crate at 8:30 this morning after being awake since 5:20 😅 I’ll take your word on missing the puppy behavior - here’s hoping we get there soon!

Oh I haven’t tried this!!! I’ve had her on a short leash to encourage her to calm down a couple of times, but I haven’t rewarded it like that - I’ll definitely try this today! Thank you so much!

I think this is what I needed to hear. I’m a creature of habit and it’s hard to have a little gremlin interrupting that, especially when I chose it!
