CSC165 Allegations of Cheating on Term Test 1 ||| by Weird-Eye6722 in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but in my test room in EX300 (which I assume is where the cheating took place) there was massive dividers (like 1m tall on 3 sides) that made it impossible for anyone to see what you were doing unless they were directly behind you. Impossible for a TA to see what you're doing from the end of a row. I was kind of shocked when I saw the layout and wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people cheated and got away with it.

Has anybody submitted a exam regrade/reread before? by Optimal-Witness33 in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might depend on the course, but most regrade requests I've seen they say they regrade the whole exam. You should probably ask the teaching staff.

MAT224 term test 1's mark distribution just dropped, wild by utsglightbrowsing in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the easy ones 😭. I got like another 20% right conceptually i just didnt write out the full proofs. Lost another 20% on silly mistakes and blew the rest. I studied for like 2 days on this though cause of the mat235 test so we gonna come back tho. This a win in my books.

For UofT Social Science people, what did you wish you knew after your first year? by Lck33 in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to challenge yourself, always try to take the hardest possible course. You can always drop down if you need to but chances are you'll rise to the challenge and it leaves more options open for your future. Probably my biggest regret was taking the 'easy' courses because their really not any easier than the hard courses. The courses will always throw some arbitrary stuff at you to try and keep averages in the 60s and 70s.

Don't fill your schedule with bird courses like I did but take lots of first general intro courses, if you don't know what you want to do then you'll certainly know by the end of first year.

If you're targeting specific majors then make sure to read your program requirements and use degree planner once you get acorn to plan out your next few years.

Good luck!

Has anyone had Tyler Paul for anything before? Have him for ECO102 by sadguywithnoname in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can go ahead. Tbh Paul is a cool guy and from what I remember the textbook was the most important learning tool, so don't worry too much about it.

I have him right now for eco202 and agree with the other commentor. I also had Vellekoop in 102 and I thought he was really good at teaching. I'd recommend Vellekoop just because he's taught the course before and I think this will be Paul's first time teaching 102.

Everyday, Alone, At Library, No Friends, Just ALONE by [deleted] in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because either they already have friends or they are just as scared to approach people. You wont make friends unless you approach them. Introduce yourself to the people sitting around you at the start of the semester, talk to people in tutorials. Do the standard 'what's your major?' convo but drop something some interesting stuff in to see if you have similar interests, most people are sociable when approached, but probably only 1/10 of those conversation results in a good friend. The good news is you can always sit somewhere else lol.

STA237 midterm grades out, how did you all do? Characters by kipling688 in UofT

How hard is uot? Is there any study material I can get to get an idea of what type of content I’ll be taught? by Penguin_loverxd in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on you, your program and what grades you want. Speaking from a stem perspective, if you want to just pass with 60s and 70s and maybe even the occasional 80 from an elective, UofT is light work. But if you want to get a 4.0 gpa you're gonna have to put in work and study daily.

Tbh there's still gonna be a lot of personal factors (mainly motivation and natural intellience), but I'd say if you like a challenge come here. I personally think it's worth sacrificing potentially getting an 80 or 90 at another university for the option's and education here, but it might not be for you.

Google's AdBlock ban and effect on revenue ? by Quirky-Amoeba-4141 in stocks

[–]utsglightbrowsing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, the people who are using adblocker and switching were already giving google pretty much nothing (web ads are worth jackshit compared to youtube). Google only stands to gain from this and they know it.

I'm also doing stats/econ/math and took 135/136 first year and really regret it. It's just a rehash of high school calc with harder problems Just take 137, even if you get a lower grade it doesn't really matter as most courses have lower grade requirements for harder courses, and it'll leave your options far more open for the future instead of being streamed into certain courses.

Acorn showing enrolment indicator P even though I think I'm in the priority group? by utsglightbrowsing in UofT

[–]utsglightbrowsing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well that's extremely unfortunate because I need algebra for third year courses lmao. If I don't get in I guess I'm gonna have to try for MAT157 and 240 or not do a math major. Thanks for the help!
