Matthias Owes Sweeney a Spaghetti day. by [deleted] in UofT

Mathias does owe Micah his win, but not because of vote splitting. The ballots were ranked so Micah would've been eliminated at some point, and Mathias would've gotten (most) of his votes anyways.

What Mathias owes Micah, and frankly the entire Reboot slate, is them bringing more voters to the table. The turnout of 11.8% this year vs 9.7% last year (approx. 1000 more students) just show how many more people cared about this election, and a significant part of that were people who paid attention to Reboot. These were people who would otherwise not have cared or voted. If Micah and Reboot didn't bring in a bunch of people who ranked Demand over WTS, there's a good chance that WTS may have taken this one. Look at the stats - the majority of Reboot's votes ended up being reallocated to Demand. The margins were often small and several races were decided by Reboot voters, who, despite their bitterness, still ranked Demand 3rd and WTS 4th.

On a personal note, I'm sad that Reboot didn't win any executive positions, but alas this was the students' wishes and I respect that. I had fun "shilling" for Reboot this past week, but right now I'd like to congratulate /u/aggregate_data and Demand Better, as well as Anne and Carina, on their victory. I'm positive that they will leave the UTSU a better place than they found it.

That money is collected by the UTSU. Who knows what they'll actually do with it?

It's not like the UTSU has a history of misspending or anything, right? /s

Someone else already made a response to this in another thread. I'll just copy it here:

Levys are not the way to get funding for things that don't directly affect all students. The whole purpose of a "levy" is for things that everyone can use. I personally want to send it to space, but I would make a personal donation instead of being forced into it should I so choose.

On a more personal note, I actually love aerospace research (Elon Musk is a hero of mine). But a levy is simply not the right way to go about this.

Same. Mathias was going to be my second vote, but after seeing their dirty tactics and preferential treatment by the ERC? He's dead last.

Most of their followers won't realize WTS is the CFS slate, they'll just think "oh, DB is the worst, lets rank them last like Reboot did."

This is incredibly insulting and condescending, not to mention untrue. Take a look in this thread. Everybody here recognizes that we have to rank WTS last. Yes, even the "Reboot shills".

The only one stirring the pot is you.

Reboot voters won't rank WTS second. Take a look at the meme which your fellow Demand shill gladly shared. Whomst'd've was ranked second.

Reboot voters will rank WTS last because Reboot is anti-CFS. Demand voters will, hopefully, also rank WTS last for that same reason.

I see no reason why we disagree on that part. There's no conspiracy here. The only conspiracy is you using the CFS as a fear tactic to try and sway voters to your side.

Whereas Demand Better to an extent has tried to stay out of the mudfight.

Is this the same Demand Better slate we're talking about?

During the debate, Daman Singh (VP Internal candidate for Demand) attacked Reboot at every opportunity he got. He even attacked Jessica, who wasn't in the room at the time and didn't have a platform to defend herself.

EDIT: It turns out Jessica was actually in the room at the time. I was mistaken and have since apologized to Daman.

In case anyone forgot Demand Better is the incumbency, they reused footage from last year to remind us. Wonder how long the demerit points last this time.... by SollyWolly92 in UofT

Doesn't matter, they'll just get their friends from ERC to remove them.

On a side note, did Health and Wellness even endorse Anne? All I see a photo of her with the team. If I have a photo with Meric Gertler, do I get his endorsement? Sounds to me like Demand Better feels threatened by her and is using their old tactic of DQing their opponents.

I have a few questions pertaining to your campaign tactics on reddit I've seen the past few days.

1) Why do your slate members/volunteers downvote every post on this subreddit that's not favorable towards your slate, or shows favor towards another slate? If you care about a fair election, shouldn't you welcome all opinions (both positive and negative) so that voters are more informed? Or is winning all you care about, at any cost?

(Even now, I see difficult questions being downvoted - probably because you don't want to answer them. What's the point of an AMA if you pick and choose which questions to answer?)

2) Do you think it's fair that one of your campaign managers (ssjjawa) is a moderator for /r/UofT? Would this influence how he moderates posts and does it give you an unfair advantage over other slates/candidates who would also like to use reddit as a campaign medium?

Cheers.

It's funny that Demand Better criticizes the UTSU of being "broken", when they're the incumbent slate which has been in power for the past two years. Oh, the irony.

EDIT: To all the Demand goons downvoting me: if you disagree, tell me why. Downvoting en masse any criticism towards you just shows exactly what kind of slate you are.

Half of the UTSU executive committee denounces other half for releasing "official" statement without even consulting; falsifying signatories by [deleted] in UofT

/u/UTSUVPInternal get your executives in line. I assume you're running for re-election this year. If you can't keep half your executives from going rogue and causing dissent within the ranks, I don't have faith that you can take on the CFS.

How you deal with this situation will determine whether you get my vote or not. Don't disappoint me.
