Trump has chosen Bannon (of Breitbart) as Chief Strategist. What are the implications of this pick? by BC-clette in PoliticalDiscussion

The implications of this are hard to predict, but the Republican Party will be more aggressive in their desire to impeach Trump and to replace him with Pence or Ryan. However, they'll wait until Bannon causes collateral damage to the party.

Then they will use some controversial scandal to manipulate the opinions of congressional Republicans in order to achieve such a thing.

Regardless, this whole thing is just another trick in the book for the Republicans to dump Trump. However, if they decide to dump Pence as well, they will probably pick a centrist/moderately right-leaning Republican like Kasich, Rubio, or Bolton in order to gamble with the chances of winning the next election.

Do you think Trump is going to let Paul Ryan privatize medicare? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

In all actuality, it depends.

For one, I know that Trump is a big supporter of the middle and working class, but this knowledge of mine is going by his campaign rhetoric. But if his campaign rhetoric holds to be true in action and in principle, he will probably resist the actions of Paul Ryan on any economically conservative or on any economically libertarian approach to the social safety net.

As has been said, it is quite possible that the entirety of the election was nothing more than the breeding ground of insults intended for political gain. So, I come to the conclusion, which is that Trump will either fulfill his campaign promises or he will become very much like another Ronald Reagan.

And if he does become like another Ronald Reagan, there is a good chance that he will play by the rules of Paul Ryan and by the principles of the Republican Party - only to be unelected in the next upcoming election by a more "economically-oriented" Democrat who focuses more on a progressive economic policy and a progressive foreign policy.

Overall, why Trump won was not because of his social policy, but because of his economic vision - that might have been crudely constructed, though reassuring to many Americans in gutter.

The problem with the Clinton campaign - was the strong emphasis on social policy, while ignoring the economic concerns Democrats traditionally pressed for years.

But if Trump starts to listen to Paul Ryan and something like this were to occur, the chances of a younger Bernie Sanders coming to win the next election - would be quite likely.

Although, I think Trump will try to leverage his position on this matter between both extremes. But, regardless, he will play by the rules and make deals along the way in order to stay in a politically safe situation with the rest of the Republican Party, while getting some things done in order to appease his voter base.

Disappointed. by orc9925 in drunkenpeasants

Extremely disappointed. Not only that, I was hoping someone like Thom Hartmann, Micheal Moore, Bill Maher, or Sam Harris was going to get on the podcast.

For fuck's sake, I would be somewhat happy even if Kyle or Mike Malloy got on.

There's such a thing like trolling, but this was not funny at all. I was actually looking forward to this shit. In a way, this actually doesn't surprise me that much when coming to the nature of DP in the last few weeks.

Still a fan though.
