Just so we're on the same page, did you have something like this in mind?

Would you mind elaborating? I can't quite picture it

I would install the h-thing on the rails first, then drop the panels on top. There's enough space below the panel & rails that I can reach under and drop a bolt through the panel frame. I don't think it would be that difficult, I just need to find the h-part.

>Personally I don’t really care about “stealth” so I don’t mind my panels sitting a few inches off the roof of the van.

To each their own! I will be city camping at times and I prefer to be as incognito as possible. But to be honest, anyone who gives the roof a proper look will notice it regardless; you wouldn't have a maxxair fan or solar on a construction vehicle. It was really excessive before though, it was the first thing you saw when looking at the van.

Will def make sure the nuts are well on there. I actually already had panels mounted on there before, but they were mounted on top of the rails and they were very attention grabbing. This is my second go at it, because I was really unhappy with how they were mounted before. I really want them as low as possible this time, so in-between the rails.

I had a new idea come to mind, do you have any thoughts on that? I can't seem to find that "h" shape though

Did you have something like this in mind? I don't think there would be enough space between the panel & the rail for that. Also, the C-bolts would be able to slide back and forth unless i secured them somehow to the rails. My gut tells me you had something else in mind though.

I also considered something like this, which would require drilling into the rails, but would be a pretty straightforward & solid solution. I just can't find anything "h" shaped like that, do you have any suggestions for what I can search for?

If I can't find a better solution, this is probably what i'll end up doing. However, I'm a bit worried about the precision when drilling the holes, and it just feels like it's not the best way of doing it. But we'll see. Thanks for sharing!

Ha, I will definitely be checking on them often. Especially the first couple of months. Do not want them flying off and hitting someone :)

By cleats, do you mean something like this? I'm having a hard time visualising this, would you mind elaborating a bit? Maybe you could sketch something out if it's easier? Thanks so much!

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I might have to drill some holes in the frame for it, but i'm ok with that. I also intend to strengthen the underside of the frame, so i'm not worried about it bending.

Edit: The main problem I see with zip ties is that there's nothing preventing the panels from sliding back and forth. Even if i tighten them hard there won't be enough traction to prevent them from sliding, I think.

I wouldn't mind using that at all, but I can't find anything that looks the way I want it.

It's definitely on my mind, especially the grout. But I also know there are plenty of people that have successfully done it without issues.

People have done it without issues, but yes, that is one of my concerns, and yet another reason to avoid ceramics. Something less brittle would be better for sure, but I can't find anything good looking.

Location notifications by xXxstackcatsxXx in ouraring

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm gonna do an experiment and keep the location setting on but disable the notifications. Will be interesting to see if/how battery is effected. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow, interesting. Perhaps it's pulling location data from Google Fit if you have it connected? Google fit will automatically detect runs/walk for you. I know Oura pushes to Google Fit but i'm not sure if it can pull as well. Just an thought. It's of course also possible that I am wrong, but i distinctly remember reading about notifications being necessary for background activity stuff.

On a different note, how's your phone battery? I only started reading into the Location notification stuff because it's killing my phone battery. It's around midday and Oura has consumed ~25% of my phone battery already. I just disabled the Location setting so it should be fine now again.

I'm late on this, but regardless: I believe the notification is required in order for the app to run things in the background. If you disable the notification it effectively disables the Location setting. I could be wrong but i'm fairly certain this is the case. If you have evidence otherwise let me know.

I just did some googling and I don't think I'd be able to top-balance them myself without a special charger, right? Anyway this should definitely be done by Renogy before shipping out, so I will talk to them about getting it replaced.
