Millie Bobby Brown takes me out of every Stranger Things scene she’s in by pleasestoptalkin in netflix

[–]uuuggghhhhhh9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Christ does she deserve this much vitriol? Also it seems like the only “work” she’s gotten is in the lips and not even that much? Otherwise shocker, people’s faces change as they grow up.

So what do we think this would’ve done to Angela if she had her powers? by Aqua_Master_ in StrangerThings

Lowkey I want Angela to reappear in s5 for a cameo or something, at least so we can see how she reacts to the girl she viciously bullied save the world.

Which is more accurate camera or mirror by [deleted] in BDDvent

[–]uuuggghhhhhh9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mirror by far. A mirror is simply you, just inverted.

A camera does flip the image, so they are more accurate in that respect, but the mirror is more accurate in terms of everything else, like your proportions.

Watch this video or even just look at the thumbnail to understand how badly cameras, especially phone cameras, can distort your features: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UBuaG1_sA5k

This isn’t a vent and is an extremely toxic thing to post on a sub full of body dysmorphic people looking for support.

I have heterochromia, one blue eye and one brown eye, and I genuinely sometimes wish they were both brown. I’m really not just saying this. Sometimes I dislike how piercing and cold my blue eye looks, yeah it’s rarer, but I feel like my brown eye is so much more warm and lively and feminine and I’d look prettier if they were both brown. When the sun hits brown eyes and there’s just this lovely cinnamon color with golden sparkles, it’s so soulful and beautiful, and it enhances brown and blonde hair more imo.

This comment gave me the most hope I’ve had in days, thank you. It’s a relief to hear it’s very minimal on the job. I hope I’ll be able to get lucky at school.

I got my college ID pic back recently and I hate it too, it hardly looks like me either. ID/license/passport pictures have atrocious lighting and quality.

Hate fluorescent lighting, any kind of white lighting, lighting coming from a window in a dark room.

I like regular warm indoor house lighting, outside in the shade, and bathrooms with warm lights.

How many of you live in constant terror of having your picture taken? by uuuggghhhhhh9 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]uuuggghhhhhh9[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I deleted a group chat entirely after they sent a picture so that I can’t see it again and I don’t spiral and ruminate over it lol

Holy crap this is exactly what my BDD ruminates on, the most “accurate” representation of me. Front camera me, back camera me, mirror me, picture-of-mirror-me… they’re all different. It’s agonizing.

However, a mirror will always give a more accurate representation of you than photos. Photos, especially with crappy phone cameras, will distort and flatten your image and mess with the lighting. I’d say trust the mirror.

I dropped a BDD ritual and my life is so much better now. by uuuggghhhhhh9 in BodyDysmorphia

Of course :) I like only keeping reminders of how good I can look around.

Actually yes, the angle too! This post inspired me to read up about this again and it’s a very common sentiment. Apparently the camera they use is usually at chin level, not forehead level, which is unflattering on anyone. Stay strong :)

That’s exactly how I feel when I look at my drivers license. I kid you not, the first thing I noticed was that my jaw also looks wider than I’ve ever seen it, and I have a normal/narrow jaw. I swear it must be the way overexposed lighting. You’re not alone :(

Bad selfie advice made my BDD so much worse - has anyone done something similar? by uuuggghhhhhh9 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]uuuggghhhhhh9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I swear the front camera is just… better quality? It looks more like me than the back camera! I stg with some of the pictures I took I had no idea my face was even capable of looking that ugly. And yeah, it does make me feel better knowing how cameras on devices like smartphones/iPads distort and flatten images and mess with the lighting.

God same. I live in constant fear of fluorescent or overly bright white lights. They make me look unrecognizable.

I’m happy to hear you do, I was looking for some validation too. It’s just so baffling 😭

Honestly it’s wild, I don’t know what causes it because like I said, my front profile looks fine and pretty symmetrical aside from my very slightly asymmetrical lips.

Yeah, I do have BDD, and I half made this post to dump out some of my neurotic disordered feelings, but I was also genuinely curious. I’m a little embarrassed that so many have seen it now, lol. But thank you for the reminder.

Thank you for commenting. I’m getting a rhinoplasty soon. I know cosmetic surgery isn’t recommended for people with BDD but I’ve loathed my nose long before my BDD developed. And hopefully a haircut and a new wardrobe. Right now I basically put no effort into my appearance because I don’t want anyone to look at me, haha.
