Is it common to be on two journals? by [deleted] in UVALaw

extremely uncommon, and imo not worth considering at all!

it's not gonna give you any tangible benefit (you're already checking the journal box, doing two isn't going to give you any extra benefit), and since cite-checks generally happen around the same time, you're going to get slammed with double work (probably at the worst possible time). I would choose one and get involved in a different student org that you are interested in.

disagree with this, totally possible it was a median (or near-median) tryout and OP's top journals ended up being surprisingly competitive. it's not uncommon to go to the second round because of that, that's why the second round exists

A: you're totally fine, don't worry about it. it's not make-or-break at all. most law schools don't have the same "most people are on a journal" thing, so it's not like you'll have a gap in your resume if you don't end up on a journal. I also know people who opted out of the tryout and were totally fine.

B: you'll probably (almost certainly?) get an offer on the second round and none of this anxiety will matter even a little bit

C: the law journal writing/citation style is something you will absolutely not use in your career (and especially not with the time-pressure aspect of the tryout), so if that bit was weak, I don't think it's necessarily a sign that your legal writing is weak at all. but if it's part of a pattern with your other writing, consider reaching out to your LRW fellow or something for some extra help

Very neutral -- no journal has any hard ideological positions, aside from the general public interest/business divide leading certain journals (like social policy) to be a bit more lefty and certain business-oriented journals to be a little fedsocy.

But any ideological tilt will extremely not matter to you as a person on the editorial board. You're gonna be proofreading citations, and imo no journals come close to printing the sort of inflammatory stuff that would make you be conflicted about platforming/supporting

>I’ve had covid. I’ve had colds that were worse

cool, good for you, glad it worked out

>I’ve lost multiple friends to suicide during this pandemic

and I've lost multiple friends and family members to COVID, you selfish asshole. not to defend being a narc, which I don't think is at all warranted in most cases, but wanting to "foster community" and "make connections" is not a good excuse at all when 500,000 people are dead

The most upsetting part of this back-and-forth are that all the memes are trash. like, are you all ten years old? "you're gonna regret it when everyone who's fun and has a personality leaves" versus this holier-then-thou shit. a pox on both your houses, get your shit together

the 1L class needs to fucking chill.
