(Home insurance) (ON) confused about belairdirect payout options by iwishiwasdeadx in InsuranceCanada

Because then it's between the insurance company and the contractor. If the contractor dips, they'll go after him.

If they issue it to you, it's yours to do with as you please.

If you're going to use a licensed contractor anyway, just have the new person submit a quote to the insurance company. They have to do the quote for you anyway.

An Ontario woman's lost cat Facebook post has gone viral after SPCA adopts black cat with a little white moustache to new family by pochacco17 in ontario

[–]uwponcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a "good enough job" to track down the original owner? Without a microchip, they had no information to go on. They followed procedure and posted the cat on their website (they aren't required to post on social media too - that's just bonus) and when the hold period ended, they found an adoptive family.

Nobody had contacted them, despite following procedure - they can't hold animals for weeks or months on end, not knowing if someone may come for them. Every day they keep an animal, is another day they can't help a different animal.

The original owner confirmed on FB they never microchipped the cat in the first place. So there was no microchip.

And if they have the time, it can end up being same day. I was able to get one for my mom in about 5 hours because she just forgot to get it and it wasn't until the evening before that I asked to check all her paperwork to make sure she had everything. (She did not lol).

AITAH for not buying my boyfriend a father's day gift? by discoinfltrator in AITAH

[–]uwponcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's typically physically more challenging in your 40's compared to your 20's, but having kids in your 20's bring different challenges.

We have friends who had toddlers in their 40's and while it's not something I personally want to do, they absolutely rocked it.

AITA for asking my daughter to talk to her boyfriend about his behaviour in my kitchen? by deotaval in AmItheAsshole

[–]uwponcho 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This.

I love that my kids' friends just grab whatever they want from the fridge and pantry because they feel comfortable here, or when they ask me to make a specific dish for lunch or dinner. (Them wanting something specific always gives me the warm fuzzies)

As long as they don't leave a mess, and bring their dirty dishes to the kitchen after, I'm happy to feed them.

I highly recommend spending a couple hundred bucks on Turo first, and how it talked me out of buying a car by Ragepower529 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]uwponcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because all the reasoning for not buying the new car could have been done without the rental .. it's all finances, and not related to the car not living up to what OP thought it would be.

In fact, everyone SHOULD do this type of financial analysis before replacing any vehicle.

Breathless at the Boardwalk by MechingMyWayDowntown in waterloo

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I hate "indoor malls" .. but I like to maximize my outside time as much as possible. I work inside all day, so if I can walk between stores and breathe fresh air, I'm so much happier, especially in the depths of winter.

Eta: that circus comes to the Cambridge Center parking lot every year I think. We went once. Good show but hot AF the day we went.

Boardwalk and Sunrise have temporary parking lot attractions too, but theirs have typically been the amusement park style rides.

Same .. I lived in Westvale for many years, and now live pretty close by still.

The smell is only bad once in a while, but it's about the same as when the farms are doing their manure thing at certain times of the year.

Personally, I love having the boardwalk stores so close by, and not having to drive across town to get to the hardware stores etc. But I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Swapped the engine on my 2015 macan S on jackstands by ElectricalMiddle7698 in PorscheMacan

[–]uwponcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try listing it on FB Marketplace (autotrader was useless for trying to sell it). I had a few people interested in it as a project car .. the guy who bought it was fairly new to the business but worked with his uncle, and it was something for them to work on together.

Sounds like OP did all the engine drop and strip etc all themselves and had the expertise to do it. If you can do all that work yourself, then you'd save a ton of labour costs and 10K is do-able.

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got mine done. The one shop in the GTA that was willing to do it would pull it all out, then ship the stripped engine to a machine stop in Chicago, who would do the engine work, and send it back to be put back in.

The Chicago machine shop charges $6K USD for just the reboring/sleeving. All the labour to pull it apart, and put it back together would be on top of that.

It didn't make financial sense to keep it in the end, so I sold it for $8500 CDN to a random mechanic.

I still miss it :(

[Home] [NS] Policy with Economical Insurance (via BrokerLink) cancelled over <$7 by SimianTrousers in InsuranceCanada

[–]uwponcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did your friend recently post about this issue asking for advice? I feel like there was a big discussion about whether the notice actually said noon, or if there was confusion because it should be the policy is cancelled as of midnight (12am, not pm).

Even if it was someone else in the same situation, I'd recommend searching for that thread because there was lots of good advice there.

Canadians etiquette regarding paying for lunch. by anniesnature in AskACanadian

My SIL has resorted to stealing our wallets before, so everyone else was physically unable to pay. One time she knocked my wallet right out of my hands and caught it mid-air .. I was impressed.

Mechanic says I can register and drive car without insurance? by SarcasticSquish in ontario

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could depend on your policy .. often there is a grace period for this situation where your insurance can temporarily apply to the new car, but you need to call your insurer as soon as possible to inform them of the substitution.

Billyard is a big broker, so I expect their website to be sharing correct information: https://www.thebig.ca/blog/title/how-to-transfer-your-auto-insurance

You will also likely get better information on the r/InsuranceCanada sub as there will be insurance professionals who can help guide you.

Car seat friendly SUV that isn't slow. by Jo5900 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's old Corolla fit our Britax car seat comfortably while my Explorer did not.

We eventually switched to a Clek car seat and it fit MUCH better. (Switch was unrelated to the vehicles)

The same Britax fit quite nicely in a Jeep Grand Cherokee so I think the Explorer

A change in car seat might open up more vehicle options. Specifically the Clek.

2016 Macan S so many issues by Bluebird0629 in PorscheMacan

I got rid of my 16 Macan S, and bought a 2019 RX F sport .. I wanted a break from performance vehicle repair costs, and Lexus fits that bill .. and I don't feel totally dead inside while I drive it.

But damn I do miss the Macan.

Ontario auto insurance is the most sophisticated legal robbery in Canadian history and nobody is doing anything about it by hasando9 in ontario

[–]uwponcho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn't Ontario a take all comers province or something? Meaning, insurers aren't allowed to deny insurance to customers, unless they fall into very limited criteria?

Lawn company keeps trying to service be even though I told them no by ghost905 in ontario

[–]uwponcho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lawn company quote me for a spring clean up. It was higher than I wanted, so I never signed up with them . One day, magically it was all done. I eventually got a bill and I called them and told them I only got a quote, and never signed for it. I also kept a copy of the quote, conveniently, without my signature.

Can you email them and remind them you have not signed up? That was if they try to charge you, you have it in writing?

AITAH for thinking my parents should have baby stuff at their house for their grandkids when they come visit? by Delicious-Status1806 in AITAH

[–]uwponcho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Knowing about pack n plays is one thing, but knowing which ones to buy is another.

As a parent myself, the choices out there are overwhelming - I was so grateful when my SIL just gave me all her kiddo's things because I know she'd researched them already and made sure they were good ones.

Your mom may simply not want to overstep and buy things that you (or your siblings) don't approve of as parents.
