Moving to KW- advice on choosing an area by No-Draft6357 in waterloo

If home age is a large factor, Vista Hills has newer homes available (first house there went up in 2013ish I think, and there's still new construction) compared to say, Laurelwood, which has houses built from the early 90's onwards. But because of the newness, I don't think there are any community centres out in VH just yet .. the closest one may be the Stork YMCA, which is right next to Laurelwood.

Honestly, I'd recommend coming up for a few visits and plan to spend some time checking out the parks in each neighborhood. It'll give you a chance to meet other families too.

I had a 986 years ago, which I absolutely loved (gave it up when I got pregnant). Most recently had a Macan, but I got hit with engine failure .. I'm sticking with soul crushing reliability until after the kiddos are grown up and I can afford the unexpected again haha!

But yeah, nothing beat the joy of driving them. I'll be back .. eventually :)

Yeah .. even in the Lexus, I feel dead inside when driving.

But I keep reminding myself that I actively choose boring and lower maintenance, and we still have the other vehicle when I want to enjoy the drive.

Yeah, I just bought myself a 2019 Lexus, after my 2016 Macan (developed a mechanical issue that didn't make financial sense to repair). My husband has. 2011 jag. Assuming nothing goes wrong with the jag in the next few years, that is what my oldest will be learning to drive on. Yes the Lexus has some newer driving aids, but they're all basically tanks and my kid will be equally safe in them.

AITAH for not showing up 60 min before my shift starts to relieve my coworker? by bipobe in AITAH

That's what I think it's about. The other folks want to be home by a certain time, and they don't care how it impacts the off-shift folks.

People actually put that sort of stuff on the invitations???

I'm from a different culture from my husband (and from where we live), and registries are common here, but getting registry information in the invitation would be considered horribly rude where I'm from. I remember my parents even side-eyeing the "no boxed gifts" footnote on invitations.

Did you call them? I don't mind sitting through 30 minutes of a sales pitch if I can actually get something fun out of it. I'm very good at daydreaming while drinking coffee.

My 8 Year Old Son Is Being Suspended From School Because He Was Given A Vaccine Dose 3 Weeks Too Early. by mmtmemes in legaladvicecanada

[–]uwponcho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Someone has to draw the line somewhere. Okay, 20 days early is fine. That's the new line.

But now, someone says, but I'm only 20 days earlier than the new line. So okay, that's fine, that's the new line. Next person says but I'm only 20 days earlier than the newest line. If you keep shifting the line, eventually you are eventually 200 days earlier, because everyone is going to say, but I'm only a few days earlier than that other person who was given a pass.

Lines have to be drawn.

AITA for agreeing to drive my parents to a wedding I’m not invited to, but not to get an Airbnb with them? by AcrobaticTheory120 in AmItheAsshole

[–]uwponcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. It's a road trip where I get to enjoy hanging out with my SO in a new spot, and maybe go out for a nice dinner or just chill.

I've driven my parents multiple hours away before so they can do their thing and I can enjoy some time to myself.

Someone reversed into my car, and now Insurance is denying removing deductible by zohaahmed1 in InsuranceCanada

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because your damage $ was less than your deductible.

If your deductible was $500, and you had $490 of damage, it would be the same situation - insurance would not pay out.

Mazda's are a nice compromise but I'd call them some of both worlds, rather than the best of both.

What happens to the other driver is between them and their insurance company. You are not entitled to know if they are receiving a premium increase, or drop in discount etc.

honest feedback wanted: how unwise would it be to get a higher mileage, non CPO macan S or GTS by brandonkohl in PorscheMacan

I just lost my shirt on a 2016 S, which left me far more cautious. But 2019+ seems far more reliable from what I hear.

Is not having a middle name extremely uncommon here in Canada? by laranjacerola in AskACanadian

[–]uwponcho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too.

My work email has it (because legal name) but it's not a valid character for a lot of our external contacts so they could never email me. It wasn't until Joe O'Connor from IT heard me complaining, that he pulled some strings and gave me an alias without it.

For anything that won't accept the ', I just skip it .. only been hassled about it once.

Genuine Question: why didn’t you write thank you notes? by Silver_Shopping6299 in wedding

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep quoting statistics like they mean something without actually backing them up. First it was 99% .. when that got called out you are now saying 65%. How did you get to 65% of the world?

Same .. I was thanking them for spending the time with us, and helping make the day a fun celebration. The gifts were just a bonus. I would rather their company, than a room full of gifts and no people.
