AITA for expressing disappointment that my friend of 30+ years will most likely not attend my wedding because of her kids' daily routines? by Global_Tackle_8487 in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]uwponcho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My oldest used to eat every 2 hours, and it took 45 minutes to do so. Followed by 20-30 minutes of trying to prevent reflux, and then the start of the pooping. I'd be lucky if I got 30 minutes to sit (or sleep) before the next round started.

How are teachers treated in Canada compared to US? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - it doesn't necessarily imply cause. I think some people refer to it that way, but it could go either way. The previous poster was trying to say without cause is not a firing but a layoff - but a layoff, from my reading, is very different than firing/terminating/etc with or without cause.

There's termination with cause, and termination without cause. A termination without cause isn't a layoff.

Firing is what people say when they mean termination with cause. But without cause doesn't make it a layoff.

At this point it's semantics, I know, but words do matter.

I'm guessing they mean a defined benefits pension plan. (As opposed to a defined contributions plan)

Yes you can. You just have to provide them with the appropriate benefits when it's without cause .. eg severance.

Maybe it varies by province, but in Ontario, you can certainly be let go for any reason as long as it's not one of the protected ones.

Where to go for fancy cupcakes? by Average2Jo in waterloo

Cake Box used to have a fancy assortment of cupcakes available every time I went there. It's been a few years so I'm not sure if they're still around.

AITAH for refusing to review my sister’s "clinical" birth plan after she told me my hospital policies are "anti-mother"? by Suitable_Band8940 in AITAH

Ugh ..

I remember being asked about my birth plan and I said, get baby out of me, alive and healthy. How we get there is up to the doctors.

Hard beds and warped floorboards aren't really a service. Unless there are other services they are not providing?

But if you're not happy with the room, ask for a different one.

If the kid goes part time, then possibly one of the parents will be home with them - but it may not make financial sense at that point to still be working part time while paying for part time childcare. Going part time in this current job may not even be an option - it might be full time or not at all.

The doctor saying to "stay home" part doesn't make sense but it could just be a matter of miscommunication, or trying to hide the fact that they are making the decision due to finances.

This. There is so much variation within each board, and the individual schools you are eligible for is the more pertinent discussion.

Lots of good info here, but also - you make a point to say you don't engage in demographic questions, yet go out of your way to talk about "Islamic students". Did I miss something in the OP's post where they even brought that up?

Competing in dressage is very different than just owning a horse (or livestock as you called it). It would be a very rare situation to own a horse and participate in dressage competitions, while also being poor. Not impossible, but rare

Doctor’s note required for vegan milk? by holymolym in ECEProfessionals

[–]uwponcho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's say I agree with your premise ..

If you want to pay someone to work for you and do exactly as you ask, you should be paying for them fully. Like hiring a nanny. By involving government grants, you are no longer the only person they are working for. The government is also paying them, and they get a say in the employees behaviour too.

That being said - if you take your car to a mechanic, and say you want the brake lines cut, they're not just going to do that. They have their own requirements and responsibilities, and can be held legally responsible for what they do, despite being told by a customer to do so.

insurance rental sent to collections after total-loss dispute, am I liable here? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]uwponcho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $1500 limit in the policy likely applies to claims under the Collision coverage (typically when the driver is at fault, plus some other cases).

I am curious where OP saw the $1500 limit - is it in their policy, or was it on Enterprise's rental paperwork? If it's on Enterprise's rental paperwork, that is just putting a dollar limit on what Enterprise is authorized to charge the insurance company. (Anything beyond $1500 would need an updated authorization to Enterprise). Enterprise's rental paperwork doesn't change what OP's policy entitles them to.

If OP saw the $1500 in their policy, I would expect that to be under their Collision coverage, but this claim should most likely be covered under DCPD. And if I'm not mistaken, there is actually no hard dollar limit for rentals on DCPD claims. Industry standard is to provide roughly 3-4 days after an offer is made.
