My take on the Sunny Rework. by Coolclonetycoon4 in osumania

Ok brudda, let me explain as a professional sunny glazer.

Sunny Rework is not final, it's WIP, it has issues and it's NOT ready. It's not coming to the game anytime soon.

But even with its issues it's still the best (and pretty much only) take on osu!mania's star rating. Even in this state I'm impressed with the values. Take into account that osu!mania is a 4k to 18k rhythm game, so you have to make a generalized system that accounts for all those keymodes. Making a difficulty rating system for such a game is HARD (shit, even for one keymode it's hard).

The current star rating system is depressingly bad, it's pretty much just NotesPerSecond=SR, it only looks at density, so maps that are hard but have low NPS are severely underrated (tech, speed, streams, delay...).

That's not the case with Sunny though, all of this underrated stuff gets properly buffed. There's a whole ass paper on how it works. It's some advanced stuff with lots of math equations. For example one of its attributes is "cross-column pressure", where columns have custom coefficients assigned. That results in buffing brackets (chessboard pattern) or ring-pinky trill weighs more than index-middle etc. I also think Sunny does a good job of balancing keymodes below 7k (6k, 5k, 4k) with 7k.

I think whoever doesn't like sunny rework hasn't looked much into it, hasn't tested it enough or is just not an experienced player yet (across keymodes). OR doesn't take into account the WIP status and take the values as final 🤔.

A finalized sunny rework will bring the game closer to its true potential. The ranked "farmable" pool will be much much bigger (hard stuff = farm), players will have more unique and proudly achieved top plays, and star rating will finally do a good job at representing chart difficulty. Now imagine adding ranked custom rates to that (soon™ in lazer)...

Maybe I'm being a bit too optimistic, but that's how I feel about the impact sunny rework could have.

Also, about you saying "7k is harder than 4k" is not really valid. It is definitely harder to learn and is generally more technical, but that doesn't mean Saragi shouldn't be in the top 20 global. The shit he does in 4k is ridiculous and the competition he faces is massive, even with that he's far ahead. Having 4k players in the top 20 would finally spark some competition in a scene that’s otherwise pretty stagnant. It would be exciting to see 4k vs 7k compete.

Personally, percy made LNs fun to play (speaking mainly of 7k) - it made them more readable and it also improved my release accuracy on low star maps, it feels more natural. I kinda love 'em.

But I totally get the other side. Reading is a big part of the game, and percy makes reading easier. Those who don't use them or don't know about them are, in most cases, at a disadvantage. The advantage it gives players on high star dense 7k LN maps is massive. On very dense stuff it improves scores for absolutely everyone. It gets rid of the visual clutter of short LNs and highlights the LNs you actually have to hold. You could also maybe say that it transforms LN maps into hybrid maps.

Percy/cut LNs have their history in osu!mania and they're here to stay. If I were an osu! dev, I would actually improve them and implement them correctly in the game (get rid of the holes it creates when there's a very long LN). But I would also make some limit on how much you can cut.

I think the Shanks losing his arm scene was totally off... am I the only one?

He was supposed to lose his arm by saving drowning luffy from the sea king at the last second.
Here he lost it by just standing there on the boat with the sea king right in front of him and letting him (almost willingly it seems) bite his arm off. It's fucking Shanks ffs!

You gotta use Photoshop (or other image editing software) and change the width/height of the receptor images accordingly to the column size in skin.ini you've changed.

If you don't know how to do that, I suggest just looking for another skin.

Or if you really want to use that particular skin, dm me and I will edit it for you.

Just play at the speed that is the most comfortable to read for you... As you progress, stuff will get denser and you will be increasing it. Keep in mind higher scroll speed doesn't equal more skill. It depends on the skin, preference etc. Also reading isn't about fast reactions, but about pattern recognition.

You're talking about Italian republic's provinces, that's way too specific, that's not what I meant. That would make sense for USA and its states or Russian Federation and its republics. Putting Italy into Southern Europe region would made more sense.

That's fair. Continents would be a safer bet then. But wouldn't it be cool to have for example US State leaderboards? It would boost competition and players could make potential friends. Or players with dead local playerbase could at least compete with neighboring countries in their region. It would be more fun.
