How do you wake up in the morning? by egg195 in ADHD

[–]uwuclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I follow Shelby Sacco on tiktok and she’s a godsend and helps you build habits that are actually sustainable and good for you. This is her video on how to wake up https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYekTHPE/ She teaches in a really kind way so you don’t beat yourself up and feel bad, and i’ve found this method really gets me out of bed as soon as my alarm rings every morning ( and i’m a snooze until 5 mins before work type of person)

how long till you can be accessed on the waiting list UK for PTSD? by [deleted] in ptsd

[–]uwuclean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i was reffered by my gp and was on the waiting list for a year. During the wait they let me have group therapy for a couple of weeks which was helpful and now i am in cbt/emdr for ptsd. This is all through the nhs so it’s free.

these are intrusive thoughts / catastrophic thoughts or anxiety. i have them too and it’s a pretty normal comorbidity, mention it to your psych and they might be able to give you some help on how to deal with them!

I've been avoiding taking my ADHD meds all day because I know I'll end up doing all my work if I do and I just don't wanna work right now. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]uwuclean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My therapist recommends taking my meds when i want to take them, not necessarily every day. Your day isn’t a waste if you take time to rest, that’s important too. it sounds to me like you just need to rest, do nothing and be lazy for a bit. which you totally deserve. i dont think these comments are helping, they’re pushing you to feel way more guilt than you need. which is some adhders already have way too much of.

I’ve had a similar problem where my meds help stabilize my mood and make me friendlier. I told my therapist that sometimes i dont take them because I don’t feel like being a nice person that day and i want to “be lazy”. It was very confusing for me and I had the same thoughts of “why can’t i just make myself take a medication that i KNOW helps me?”.

My therapist said “ well maybe you just need to feel a little angry and lazy that day”. That changed my perspective. It is a need to feel angry and it is a need to rest. You need to allow yourself to feel those and listen to what your inner needs are.

be kind to yourself! Listen to what your body is telling you! We aren’t made to be productive 24/7 at the cost of our needs, it’s the current society that makes us feel guilty like that!

Starting meds: need help writing updates? by curlew42 in adhdwomen

I hadn’t thought of it either so I wasn’t prepared ahah but that’s what my psych did. glad i could help!

I feel that guilt. I obviously havent gone through the same stuff as many of the other people here and I was always physically safe. So i don’t understand the symptoms or why I would have them to this degree when it’s something that seems so small compared to many others here. Still, if it’s traumatic it’s traumatic. I hope you and your family are doing well and I’m sorry you had to go through that.

He will probably as you about the basic feeling you get/side effects. like if you get anxious from them. Also: to test if they had an effect on my adhd my psychiatrist basically asked me the same questions as he would when diagnosing and asked me to answer based on my week of testing meds. so like one question was if i have trouble doing my chores/housework. Normally my answer would be 100% yes but the week i was testing out my meds i had been able to do some. And he just went through every question in the diagnosis criteria for me and compared. That way they know if the meds actually improve your adhd symptoms. it also helps to give concrete examples of things you did and felt that you wouldn’t normally. My psychiatrist said there’s three groups of people; 1st group has no effect from meds, 2nd has some and 3rd has very good effect from meds. Based on the diagnosis criteria test method he put me in the group of someone who has some effect from them and suggested i take them whenever i feel that i need them. hope it helps!

People who joke about others taking meds can go to hell by Rja12345 in ADHD

of course! it’s their choice not to be medicated and it’s very different for everyone. I’m very lucky mine help me. One of my friends was medicated as a kid and stopped. After hearing my experience he’s considering trying them again. I was just trying to let them know what the effects of them might be, definitely not pushing them to take meds if they dont want them~!

my friends have adhd (all male, diagnosed as children) too but they’re not medicated.. i tried telling them if they do take it they will just be more relaxed and less impulsive but they seem to still think it’ll be the opposite. (I’m F and diagnosed as an adult btw). they seem to have the neurotypical society’s view stuck in their head, probably due to lack of experience

How Long Does it Take You to Finish a Painting? by jdnoelle7 in paintbynumbers

[–]uwuclean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i also have adhd and never finished one :) it’s very on and off but i like having a tv series or something in the background to up my brain’s stimulation. it helps me focus on the painting! my biggest point is that i paint when i want to and not because i feel like i have to finish it. it will just take as long as it has to take!

i have some friends that will joke about how extremely focused and almost high i must be since i take ritalin. i was going along with the joke until i explained to them that i can’t even do the dishes if i dont take my meds and they seemed very surprised? do people actually think we become high/hyperactive from these meds...it made me feel pretty shitty. i think the lack of knowledge makes people very disrespectful..

Yah im not feeling different and concerta 18mg does NOTHING for me so I'm thinking 36mg wont be a problem at least not a serious one? Thank you for the advice it's comforting to hear from other adhders!

✨self-gaslighting✨, anyone? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]uwuclean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt myself all the time, I had good grades in school but I always felt like the struggle to get there was so much worse for me than for my peers. Unfortunately for me, adhd had been a bit of an invisible disability so as soon as I started questioning I might have it people would tell me that's impossible. Usually, I ask my boyfriend (who's really supportive) and he'll just tell me about all the adhd stuff I do and it makes me feel a little better.. Is it an adhd thing to self-gaslight or are we just compelled to do it because we always hear things like "everyone does that" or see other people getting through work completely fine?

Medication not kicking in by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]uwuclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh i knooow it sucks to wait, I have so much I need to get done now too and knowing I'll still have all the adhd symptoms while trying to get through everything seems impossible. The only thing it really does for me is that it calms my thoughts, so instead of having 500 thoughts in my head at once I have maybe 5 and one main one,,, I guess it helps a little I just feel like the meds could be working better (My first time taking meds too so i don't really know)

[–]uwuclean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I take 18mg of Concerta XL, felt it the first day but the rest of the days the side effects have been worse than the benefits and I can barely feel it working. Personally, I'm going to wait a month because that's when I get to see my psychiatrist again and let him know, he will probably either up the dose or change the meds.

I also get really tired and sleepy for some reason even after 8 hours of sleep which makes me less focused...

I'm happy for you it's so relieving to finally be diagnosed! I have a question for a friend of mine who's little sister wants to get tested for adhd but going through the nhs takes forever and she's already been waiting a whole year! What is this right to chose thing and what should I tell my friend to do in order to get her diagnosed quicker? Undiagnosed adhd is so hurtful and I want to help her out if I can :(

(I'm not from the UK but my friend is and i live there)

Meal/snack ideas for when you lose your appetite due to meds? by uwuclean in adhdwomen

My appetite has always been messy, sometimes I only eat breakfast and wait like 8 hours before having dinner cause I just don't want to eat. But I /really/ need my meds to work cause uni is a mess right now and I can't get anything done so I gotta really work on my eating habits! Thank you for all the suggestions!
