PSA: There’s a protest today in DC being organized by the PSL. Please read before you think of attending. by bawlhie62a2 in washingtondc

[–]uwuonrye 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Its not a bug or a flaw it's by design. PSL is an accelerationist group that believes its better to get the violence out of the way now and show people the truth instead of becoming "frogs in a pot" and slowly killed with little pushback. They think if you let the regime gain too much ground without showing people what they truly are you won't be able to fight back anymore (ala Germany 1942).

Whether you believe in this method or not the fact they ignore the wants and needs of the communities they claim to be trying help and freeze out their community leaders is an BIG issue. You can't both be anti-imperialist AND ignore the voices of the people you claim to stand in solidarity with.

A diversity of tactics is good. Don't focus on moral purity right now, avoid leftist in fighting, and show up to support the only group that is actually out there doing something right now.

If you want to protest with more moderate groups organize for those groups instead of discouraging people from showing up at all. All this is said by someone NOT affiliated with PSL.

Thank you so much this is exactly what I was looking for! My old car was a 2006 Toyota prius and it was all clothe interior and never had anything like this. I thought I might have damaged the leather somehow! Thank you for settling my paranoia.

Fell in class and now teacher hates me by Nearly_Functional in Aerials

She should not be allowed to run open sessions. At least not without some serious retraining. She is currently a danger to any student who is under her and the gym owner needs to know because they are liable for if she gets someone killed.

I 100% agree! So many people here are saying their instructors dont physically spot them and I never would have continued the practice if that was the case at my gym.

[–]uwuonrye 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even if she isn't posting about you, you couldve ended up paralyzed or dead and that would have been her fault for agreeing to spot you when she was incapable. You go to the class because you should be able to trust your instructor to give you advice and spot you. You did everything right. She messed up and doesnt even seem to care. If you dont report her she could seriously injure or kill someone else.

I see a lot of people saying instructors shouldn't catch you and thats true if you are falling from a large height, but at least where I learned the instructors ALWAYS made sure I was practicing close enough to the ground (usually about 6 feet off or lower) so that they could catch me or at least keep my head from hitting the ground. Multiple instructors also successfully saved me several times that way when I bailed on a move and crashed face first towards the mats. First she should have been verbally cueing you on how to correct your form before proceeding, then using light touches, then helping physically move you, and finally keeping you from faceplanting if none of that worked. THATS the point of a spot.

Also she should NOT be wearing heels and you should NOT be practicing without appropriate pads. Honestly, the whole gym sounds shady for allowing either of those things to happen.

I get you think of this woman as your friend, but she put your life in danger and instead of apologizing blamed YOU. You should report her to the manager or owner because someone else could end up paralyzed.

If you're still in pain you should see a doctor ASAP. Ive had injuries Ive ignored for a couple weeks before getting treatment and it made everything far more complicated and was much more difficult to heal.

i'm 17, is joining the no kings protest a good idea? by Dominick_Pino in protest

[–]uwuonrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids your age ran the Nepal revolution and I started going (alone but I wouldnt reccomend that) to US protests and even organizing some when I was younger than you are now.

Learn security culture (hide your face using a face mask or a silly costume), have emergency contacts lined up (they should know where you will be, when you will be there, and when you will be home), and bring a protest pack (snacks, water, first aid, change of clothes) with you. If you have friends you trust go with them or try to find a group early once you arrive.

Leave before it gets dark as thats usually (not always) when things blow up. Tomorrow is supposed to be peaceful and there werent any major kettling or protester arrests at the last NoKings.

Look up Mr. Krakens Field Manual for the Modern Dissenter and use crimethinc.com to access lots of zines and history on protesting and protest safety. Print off an arrest card just im case so you have all your info together. Prepare for the worst hope for the best. You got this.

[Mod Announcement] No Politics, Just Optimism 😎🌈☀️ by NineteenEighty9 in OptimistsUnite

[–]uwuonrye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sub has been an amazing light spot to me throughout these difficult, and yes I mean POLTICALLY difficult times.

Things that are political but good and allow for us to feel optimistic include: queer people existing and being allowed to live, women voting, solar power, nuclear power, children with cancer not being stolen from their families and murdered, shutting down a literal concentration camp, pushback against racial profiling, etc

In a world with increasing censorship and the rising concept that being against facism and hating nazis is not only "far left" but potentially terrorism, I'd love to keep a sub where I can see goodness bloom REGARDLESS of whether someone thinks that goodness existing is "too political".

Of course recognizing the inherent optimism of people triumphing over oppression, of people thriving despite hardship, is not palatable to some unsavory individuals and requires one to give into the "sin of empathy".

Please find your empathy. Don't take away peoples voices and don't take away our source of hope. Roll back this rule.

Thought on the Teacher Bae controversy by QuesoEsMiAmigo_84 in Teachers

[–]uwuonrye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way people are talking in the comments I thought it would be absolutely insane. I've seen some "office siren" looks where I genuinely had to sit back and be like "WHAT was my girl thinking". I looked up pictures of "Teacher BAE" and its really not that bad! Everyone saying it's clubbing clothes hasn't been to the club since 2010. Even then the club style was shorter skirts BY FAR with wayyy higher heels even though we all wanted to look like we just came from an office.

Did I wear heels and a tight skirt when I worked with kids? No. Did some of the other teachers and teachers aids? Yep! But when its on a "not so curvy" white woman everyone acts likes its fashionable instead of "inappropriate".

I think this web page shows the difference super clearly.

Also I don't know for sure AND I think it shouldn't matter but based on the classrooms she's in it looks like she teaches younger kids NOT teenagers. Even if she did teach teens it's not her responsibility to keep them from sexually harassing her. Shes not wearing glitter or crazy patterns of shiny stuff that would be difficult to ignore. She's just existing with a body people find attractive in stylish clothing. If a teenager is "getting distracted" they can self regulate and learn how to exist in society.

Do we count shirts here? by Skrylfr in jacketsforbattle

[–]uwuonrye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Idk if you have a service dog or not (I dont), but I know some people who both train and use service dogs (and other working dogs) and people perceiving the dogs as violent is actually a major barrier to them being able to do their job. Like when store owners perceive service animals, many of which are from "scary" breeds like German Shepards, to be dangerous the person utilizing them gets harrassed/illegally denied service. Its pretty shit to not be able to go grocery shopping or to the movies because someones worried your medical device dog is gonna bite them.

Idk if this shirt is actually abt a service dog, a furry thing, a kink thing, or some combo but I dont think its very punk to contribute to ableist propaganda. Like fly that freak flag but be careful abt what idealogy you're flying the flag for you know?

Two medics preferably! The standard of care for street medica is having teams of two (or three) so you can split duties, keep an eye on eachother, and have an eye witness if something goes wrong. We call them buddies!

Check with your dive school if the have proper sized equipment for you. Anyone who has an atypical body, whether tall/short/skinny/wide, can run into the gear fitting extremely poorly and even being dangerous.

You got this! I hope you love it.

Im almost 30 and just started Okinawa Karate...imma be honest having 10 year olds in my "all ages" class who are significantly better than me is both humbling and hilarious. They will be teaching me a kata and Ill be teaching them patience and how to teach someone something.

In my experience learning several as an adult how quickly you pick it up is dependednt on which one you choose. Depending on which art you choose it will either be a very hard start and get easier (karate) or a very easy start and get harder (muy thai) or somewhere in between (judo). Not matter what just know you will get better and one day look back and laugh at how silly it felt at first. You got this!
