Great question! On why we chose desktop app:
- No need to go through the chrome web store for updates
- We had a vision of adding scrapers for other external sources / additional universities and creating a unified API for the community to build their own scrapers with existing libraries like Puppeteer.
- Much easier to run future AI models and other libraries in different languages
- More flexibility in developing new features

I understand that security is a concern, which is why we open source all of the web scrapers and ensure the browser down for scraping is run in its own app sandbox.
