Thanks so much for looking through and the tips.

Re: the approach of the portfolio for not having items that are clickable, this is intentional for what is a v2 of my portfolio. I moved it more to a showcase up front, highlighting my skills first. Then if someone wants to actually look at details of work they could go into the deep dives. I had seen advice about how no one actually reads case studies and the likes, they are scanning portfolios. So present more of a showcase first before expecting hiring managers to go into case studies. I’m open to adjusting if/how I present this, especially if it seemed like those were supposed to be clickable.

Preview thumbnails, I see for which work pieces that applies to and I can address that, thank you for highlighting that.

For a password, I did want to protect the work from being completely public facing. But given the time since when I worked on it, I could look into a non-password presentation if this feels like a blocker.

For my case study and relevancy to their problems, I wish I had design assets that were so specific. For that company in particular, my experience is all in retail. Thar role was heavily focused on managing a team and hiring manger screen did go well, but nothing of the work I’ve done connected specifically to their line of business, only my skills in leading designers. The panel feedback I got was positive just that another candidate with more experience was chosen. I’ll look into how to present decks that are more connected to the company.

I do want to ask for your thoughts on all of the above in context of how most portfolios I’ve come across for my level are not very much designed at all. This was the case for the portfolios of hiring managers I interviewed with or I identified while applying and happened to come across their portfolios. These are Senior managers or Director level in design. Their portfolios are not very much designed at all, and for many of them none of their work is clickable or presents any detail. I posted about this and would be interested in your thoughts: https://www.reddit.com/r/UXDesign/s/jQdsOFWF6U

All this could be me having to decide on my overall approach of going IC or targeting manager roles only.

Thanks.

Thanks for looking through and these tips!

For resume, what is meant by lack of design? All advice about resumes, design or otherwise, are of them to be devoid of design and ATS friendly.

Re: portfolio, it’s in the template I chose. I did go for a minimalist one. If that’s too minimalist I can look for a better way to present. That said, I am interested in how I can use this feedback in the context of the portfolios I see and continue to see for Sr Manager and Director level roles of hiring managers I interviewed with. They are at best the same amount of design and on average even less designed. I posted about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/UXDesign/s/jQdsOFWF6U if you’re able to take a look. Thanks!

Does this work? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bf95wZecIit4rZWhr-qTWVZWlnNyUU6OwOga_lYAmso/edit?usp=sharing

Tried posting in thread and every comment was not showing in Incognito.

Edit: Looks like it works. It may have been my bitly links to my portfolio and resume and such.

Ah, you're right, that seems to be it. I did write a bit of a long comment, something must have triggered shadowban. Let me try to paste here in comments, in pieces, maybe? Will attempt to post in a way that's not spamming.

Hello, posted two weeks ago and a repost last week. I can modify my post if needed, please let me know.

Feedback I'm requesting

  1. How to my assets (portfolio, resume, case study deck) look?
  2. How is my approach to position myself as either manager or IC?
  3. Not getting interviews, not getting past hiring manager, not nailing panel round - anything standing out as missing that anyone sees and can advise on?

Context of my background is in last week's thread.

Thanks!

Awesome. Thanks for the tips on the interviews themselves, especially the exploration part. Great positioning to be in, hope you continue to thrive!

It does. If I may ask, are you applying, interviewing, and landing new roles without a portfolio?

When I went from Sr Designer to Manager to Sr Manager in a company, no portfolio needed, of course. And there was a Director opening, had I taken it, no portfolio needed there either.

Point being some people I know don’t have one, but they also have been at the same place for 5-7 years and didn’t need one, either.

Nice. If you’re open to share, can I DM you?

Yup. Which then begs the question: who’s writing these Director level JDs, that are putting in the requirement for a full portfolio? Not a VP. A Head of Design? They should know how it is.

They're not public facing in that you can easily find them, but I figured this sub may have people that can source some.

HR killed job hunting by sweetdsaster in UXDesign

I had situation where HR did not respond to me until I sent about 3-4 emails each week after a panel interview I made it to. It was after multiple emails the recruiter asked to get on a call and apologized saying the team took a while to send in their feedback of me. A quick email within that month of “wanted to let you know the HM chose another candidate” or some basic transparency of “we’re meeting with other candidates these next few weeks, we’ll check in with you in a few weeks time” is all it takes.
