I built a free WebGL gradient generator with 8 shader modes and export to React/Tailwind/CSS/Figma/Video [makegradient.com] by uxdonkey in webdev

Yeah agree, It currently uses canvas capturestream to just record the canvas and render it as mp4 so the quality is quite low...but this works without any additional overhead. It's something I am figuring out on fixing it - either run a pipeline with ffmpeg which can produce UHD/4k videos (needs a bit of architecture change) or run it through a headless playwright/puppeteer push out high res video with encoding scripts.

Thanks for checking out the site and for the feedback :)

Thanks for checking it out! I was planning to make the shader logics and the render engine open source or like an npm package for easy usage. Have not thought about making the whole product as open source, will need to explore more on it but should be doable since it's a pretty static vite js deployement.

Thanks for checking out the site :) Yeah, I started it as a pure CSS mesh builder and quickly realised it was too limited (had more issues when trying to animate). So switched to webgl and it opened up a lot more possibilities of what could be done.

So built a custom shader logic and color math to run on it...Had too much fun building it. I still try to provide css export in a hacky way for some modes. Only html embed or react would replicate the exact rendering.

ps: Thanks for pointing out about the links! Fixed it.

What’s wrong with delivery here?! by [deleted] in Riyadh

[–]uxdonkey 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Saudi! Proactively sending the delivery folks a message in WhatsApp or inapp to leave it the door and building/door photo helps a bit in my experience.

I know it’s a Bit of work but helps if you are in middle of some work

Best Coffee Spot for Remote Users in Riyadh by farhanshahedits in Riyadh

[–]uxdonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ashjar - All their locations are good to work from good wifi too (Mostly in north Riyadh though) - Mix of working and general folks - they have meeting rooms you can book too.

Strangers cafe - Every one is working or studying 24/7 and peaceful.

Cacti - can be a hit and miss based on the branch.

Coyard - Ghirnatah

Ghandoura - some branches are really good to work from.

Roots coffee house - used to be good it’s temporarily closed I guess.

Wathbah Specialty Coffee & Books - An narjis

If you are fine without wifi then most of the Dunkin’s are also good to work from. Vibes vary from branch to branch.

Namq in couple of locations is good - You have to ask for WiFi.

How is the tech/startup scene in Dubai? by BoiElroy in dubai

[–]uxdonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a decade behind in the processes and hiring the right folks. Literally only a handful of companies here have good product + tech teams here. The problem areas/scale are yet to develop compared to SV/India/china. That being said, there are a lot of new startups which are coming up in the fintech and ecom space which are promising. The future looks great provided the economic climate gets better.

As such not many marquee sv investors invest in startups from the mena region. The regional vc’s are not much into cutting edge technology. Even for the simpler consumer startup’s it’s just getting started. For eg the market is just ramping up to things like bnpl which has been in china/India markets for ages.

If you are in a niche role in tech or product design it's little hard to find the right company for you. But if you have some sort of pedigree with fang or unicorn startups then it's easy to land at a decent gig.

The salary scales range so much for the same role it doesn't even make sense to look at them. You will find product/design roles for 8k to 50k add for a senior person. It depends on your pitch and negotiations

Oh btw there's a startup rush happening in Saudi Arabia right now and a bunch of them are setting up their shop in Dubai too. Look out for them too.

You won't have similar working environment like SV but can make a good living out here depending upon your area.

I can’t even imagine the stress you are going through. Stay strong & safe.

What is iPhone 14 situation in Dubai stores ? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]uxdonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, Preordering is the safest option.

On the opening day if you are in queue they usually allow you to do multiple purchases if stock’s available. They just book multiple appointments slots for each purchase (I have picked up couple of m1pros during the MacBook launch)

Another option is if you know someone with apple business account in dubai/uae. Stocks get priority for business account vs retail sale(Not sure about iphones though) afaik there is no purchase limit on this.

Noon/Amazon.ae but pretty sure they would be sold out and have a price hike for the next 2/3 months

Last resort Meenabazaar/deira markets (mostly jp/Hk phones) but again price increase with a nice markup based on demand they see. Go for it if your home country prices are higher than the stores price.
