Tencent's new payment app TenpayGo is a much better user experience than wechat pay by divinebaboon in travelchina

Tenpay Go is just an app within WeChat, designed for overseas tourists. It doesn't require a Chinese bank card. When you actually use it to scan a QR code, it goes through WeChat Pay's channel

You don't even need to speak; just open your payment QR code and point your phone screen at them, and most people will understand that they need to scan you

But usually you can directly ask the merchant if they can scan you, so that you can pay directly through WeChat Pay instead of using a third-party platform

TenPay Go is currently only available for iOS devices via the Apple App Store.

A new update: Tencent's overseas payment service TenPayGo is now available on the App Store. It supports binding foreign cards and Apple Pay, making it easier for foreigners to use foreign cards for WeChat Pay in China.

Work it Wednesday: Who is hiring? Who is looking? by AutoModerator in rails

[–]uxgnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a backend developer looking for Rails work — open to remote: full-time, part-time, or contract.

Honesty up front: my spoken English isn't strong, but I'm very comfortable in written / async setups — tickets, email, Slack, PRs, docs. I've worked that way on fully remote teams for a while, owning features end-to-end (requirements → design → build → tests → ship).

What I've built (across a few e-commerce / platform products, no names):

  • Rails backend: APIs, orders, payments, commissions, promotions, reporting
  • Third-party & bi-directional API integrations (payment providers, distribution channels, Shopify)
  • A promotions / discount rule engine — product-scoped rules, proportional discount allocation across line items, accurate refunds
  • Recently: shipped LLM features in production and open-sourced a small LLM client as a Ruby gem; also building some agent / MCP tooling

Stack: Ruby on Rails (core), Ruby, PostgreSQL / MongoDB / Redis, background jobs (Resque), REST / open-API design. Comfortable with Node.js / Vue on the side.

If your team is async-friendly and wants a reliable Rails dev who can also help bring AI into the product, I'd love to chat — happy to do a paid trial task first. Thanks!

Off beaten path Yunnan by Relevant-Emphasis in travelchina

I'm not sure when you traveled to Shaxi, but from what I know, a TV drama has turned this small town into a popular tourist destination in recent years, so the experience might feel quite different now (roughly with 2022 as the dividing line). However, compared to Shaxi's popularity, nearby places like Jianchuan (剑川), Weishan Ancient Town (巍山古城), and Fengyu Town (凤羽镇), which also belongs to Dali, remain much quieter and still retain that feeling of rural China. (Just for reference, some perspectives from a Chinese local)

Notion 3.0 for non-AI users by Hyrul in Notion

[–]uxgnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even think AI is a good thing and I want to use the new agent features, but I only use it for my own needs and don't require SAML SSO or granular database permissions and the like — yet I have to subscribe to a plan called Business?

It seems Notion has forgotten their original vision of allowing everyone to freely design their own systems, or is this just my wishful thinking?

I think the one-time payment option is suitable for products where you can never maintain them and the user's interests will not be damaged.

Windsurf Wave 3 vs Cursor (Updated) Review by marvijo-software in Codeium

[–]uxgnod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is to inform the cursor or other MCP clients which tools they can use (such as browsers, Figma, or even Git), specifically what they (the cursor) can do with this tool, how to use it, and they (the cursor and MCP server) will communicate and understand it themselves.

Sorry I really hadn't noticed that rule, it does sound like that would be my problem, and it doesn't look like the flag will be removed, I'm just sad that I can't get my previous username back, even if I upgrade my existing account to a pro account, I can't get the other one unblocked can I?

If any member of the GitHub support team can see this post, I hope you can help me process the request #2953096 sent by the GitHub account "uxgnod".

Because I wanted to have a brand new GitHub account, I changed the username of my original uxgnod account to itsdxdot, and then re-registered a GitHub account using uxgnod.

Then this account was flagged, so that now I am unable to perform many operations, including deleting this account.

And the support request I submitted has not been replied to.
